Heat Transfer Through Plasma-Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings in Gas Turbines: A Review of Recent Work

open access: yes, 2009
A review is presented of how heat transfer takes place in plasma-sprayed (zirconia-based) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) during operation of gas turbines. These characteristics of TBCs are naturally of central importance to their function. Current state-

Effect of Implant Design on Fracture Resistance, Mode, and Crystal Structure of One‐ and Two‐Piece Zirconia Implants With Ceramic or Titanium Abutment Screws: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesClinical Oral Implants Research, Volume 37, Issue 9, Page 1081-1095, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the fracture resistance, fracture modes, and crystalline phase changes of zirconia one‐piece implants (OPI) and bone‐level (BLTPI) or tissue‐level, two‐piece implants (TLTPI), with ceramic (C) or titanium (T) abutment screws after dynamic preloading in a moist environment.

YBCO thin films on Yttria stabilized Zirconia and LaAlO3-growth and properties

open access: yes, 1991
Laser deposition was used to deposit YBaCuO thin films on Yttria-stabilized Zirconia substrates, at substrate holder temperatures of 710-765 °C. We observed a transition from singlecrystalline to polycrystalline growth at a temperature of ∼750 °C.

Y2O3‐Doped Bi2O3–Y2O3‐Stabilized ZrO2 Composite Ceramic Electrolytes Fabricated by Infiltration

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 9, September 2026.
To boost the electrical conductivity of solid oxide cell electrolytes, Y2O3–stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) is mixed with Y2O3–doped Bi2O3 (YDB). Alternative to mixing and co‐sintering of powders, infiltration of liquid YDB precursor into porous YSZ scaffold is proposed.

High‐Temperature Evolution of a Core–Shell TBC: Linking Microstructure to CMAS, Sintering, and Fracture Resistance

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 9, September 2026.
This graphical abstract summarizes the key findings on the high‐temperature evolution of a core‐shell thermal barrier coating (TBC). Upon annealing, alumina redistribution remains confined to the shell region. The core‐shell TBC demonstrates superior retention of CMAS resistance, sintering resistance, and fracture toughness compared to the benchmark ...

Physical Properties and Biocompatibility of Stablized Zirconia Ceramics for Dental Artficial Tooth (II) : Yttria-stabilized Zirconia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Zirconia is a ceramic material with adequate mechanical properties for manufacturing of medical devices. In this study, mechanical properties of calcia stabilized zirconia (CSZ, 10 mol% CaO), prepared by pechini process, was compared with 3 mol% yttria ...
