immunoHuMiX: A personalizable gut‐on‐chip model for unraveling human microbiome–immune interactions
The study introduces a personalized gut model that brings together human immune cells and intestinal cells to better mimic how the body interacts with microbes. This system successfully maintained both human cells and a 17‐strain probiotic community, showing consistent immune responses across different donors.

Tight junction proteins in glial tumors development and progression
Tight junctions form a paracellular barrier in epithelial and endothelial cells, and they regulate the diffusion of fluids, molecules, and the penetration of cells across tissue compartments.

Background and Purpose Intestinal barrier dysfunction caused by mitochondrial stress, oxidative damage and apoptosis, are hallmarks of dysbiosis‐associated gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. Staurosporine causes downstream features of dysbiosis‐induced epithelial damage.

A guide to the types, structures, and multifaceted functions of matrix metalloproteinases in cancer
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) orchestrate cancer progression and metastasis through proteolytic and non‐proteolytic actions. By remodeling the tumor microenvironment, enhancing growth factor availability, and modulating cell behavior, MMPs promote proliferation, migration or invasion, and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition. Alongside extracellular

Looking at tricellulin expression in the brain [PDF]
Tese de mestrado. Biologia (Biologia Molecular e Genética). Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências, 2010It was recently reported the existence of a protein, called tricellulin (TRIC), concentrated at tricellular tight junctions (TJ) but also ...

Loss of Claudin‐18 (Cldn18) expression is a frequent and specific feature of non‐mucinous lung adenocarcinoma (NM‐LUAD). Cldn18 immunohistochemistry may serve as an ancillary tool for distinguishing malignant from non‐neoplastic alveolar epithelium, as well as for differentiating NM‐LUADs with mucin production from M‐LUADs, particularly in small or ...

Inflammatory and Immunological Basis of Periodontal Diseases
The periodontal lesion emerges as an evolving immunological battlefield, where host–microbiome interactions, dysregulated immune responses, fragile resolution mechanisms, and inflammophilic dysbiosis converge to shift the balance from homeostasis to unrestrained tissue destruction.

ABSTRACT Objective Oral cancer, with a rising global incidence and poor prognosis, is associated with areca nut use in South and Southeast Asia. In this study, we addressed the effects of areca nut extract (ANE) on oral carcinogenesis by modulating fibroblast behavior in oral tissue.

Abstract Infection is a known cause of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), and matrix metalloproteases‐2 (MMP‐2) secreted by vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) plays a key role in the structural disruption of the middle layer of the arteries during AAA progression.
