Abstract Anisotropic slip activation of ZrB2 grains and deformation behaviour of constituents of ZrB2-SiC and ZrB2-B4C composites were investigated by nanoindentation. Samples were prepared by spark plasma sintering; crystallographic orientation of grains was determined by electron backscatter diffraction and deformation around indents in ...

Microstructural and nanoindentation study of TaN incorporated ZrB2 and ZrB2–SiC ceramics
This study assessed the sinterability and microstructure of ZrB2-SiC-TaN and ZrB2-TaN ceramics. Spark plasma sintering at 2000 °C and 30 MPa for 5 min produced both ceramics.

Toughening Effect of ZrB2 in Al2O3-ZrB2 Nanocomposite Ceramics
Abstract The Al2O3-ZrB2 nanocomposite ceramics were prepared and the mechanical properties of the process parameters' effect were studied. The results show that for various applied sintering temperatures of Al2O3 ceramics, a maximum Vickers hardness of 18 970 MPa and high reliability are attained at 1500 °C and at atmosphere sintering.

Synergistic influence of SiC and C3N4 reinforcements on the characteristics of ZrB2-based composites
In this work, ZrB2–SiC and novel C3N4-doped ZrB2–SiC composites were manufactured at 1850°C under an external load of 40 MPa for 6 min via spark plasma sintering. The effects of C3N4 on the mechanical characteristics (flexural strength, Vickers hardness,

Rhombohedral Boron Nitride Epitaxy on ZrB2
Epitaxial rhombohedral boron nitride (r-BN) films were deposited on ZrB2(0001)/4H-SiC(0001) by chemical vapor deposition at 1485 °C from the reaction of triethylboron and ammonia and with a minute amount of silane (SiH4). X-ray diffraction (XRD) φ-scans yield the epitaxial relationships of r-BN(0001)∥ZrB2(0001)out-of-plane and r-BN[112¯0]∥ZrB2[112¯0 ...

Microstructure of ZrB2–ZrN directionally solidified eutectic composite by arc-melting
A ZrB2–ZrN eutectic composite was prepared by arc-melting a mixture of ZrB2 and ZrN powders under a N2 atmosphere. The eutectic composition was 48ZrB2–52ZrN (mol%), resulting in a rod-like microstructure comprising hexagonally faceted ZrN single-crystal ...

The microstructures and properties of in-situ ZrB2 reinforced Cu matrix composites
In this work, ZrB2 particles have been in-situ synthesized in the Cu melts using Cu-B master alloy as the starting material. It is found that the non-uniformly distributed ZrB2 particles in the prepared as-cast composites tend to aggregate into ...
