Emission solvatochromic, solid-state and aggregation-induced emissive α-pyrones and emission-tuneable 1H-pyridines by Michael addition–cyclocondensation sequences

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
Starting from substituted alkynones, α-pyrones and/or 1H-pyridines were generated in a Michael addition–cyclocondensation with ethyl cyanoacetate. The peculiar product formation depends on the reaction conditions as well as on the electronic substitution

Goniothalamin as a Styryl‐Lactone Toxicophore in Cancer Models: Electrophile‐Driven DNA Damage, Reactive Oxygen Species–Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Signaling and Detoxification‐Relevant Safety Considerations

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 8, August 2026.
Goniothalamin (GTN) exerts anticancer effects by promoting reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, glutathione (GSH) depletion, DNA damage, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction. These interconnected events trigger apoptosis, necroptosis, anoikis, and autophagy, while modulating mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK ...

Synthetic and Structure-Activity Relationship of Insecticidal Bufadienolides

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2014
A new synthetic analog of bufadienolide, methyl isobryophyllinate A ( 1 ), and a known synthetic analog, methyl isobersaldegenate-1,3,5-orthoacetate ( 2 ), were obtained by methanolysis of bryophyllin A ( 3 ) and bersaldegenin-1,3,5-orthoacetate ( 5 ) in

Experimental, Genomic, and Structural Evidence Supporting Putative PET‐Hydrolases in Thermophilic Bacteria Isolated From Hot Springs in Cajamarca, Peru

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Integrated microbiological, genomic, and structural analyses of bacteria isolated from a Peruvian geothermal system reveal enzymatic potential for the transformation of polyesters such as PET. This study links experimental evidence with genomic determinants and in silico analyses that support the thermophilic bacteria biodegradation capacity.

New Dibenzo-α-pyrone Derivatives with α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activities from the Marine-Derived Fungus Alternaria alternata

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2022
Three new dibenzo-α-pyrone derivatives, alternolides A–C (1–3), and seven known congeners (4–10) were isolated from the marine-derived fungus of Alternaria alternata LW37 assisted by the one strain-many compounds (OSMAC) strategy.

(2‐Phosphinophenyl)aluminum Dichloride Complexes as Intramolecular Al/P Frustrated Lewis Pairs for Ketone, Ester, and Imine Activation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 28, 25 July 2026.
Three 2‐phosphinophenylaluminum dichloride complexes were synthesized and characterized as novel intramolecular FLPs. These FLP systems exhibit high Lewis acidity and effectively activate challenging substrates including aliphatic ketones, imines, and esters. DFT analysis revealed that strain release and Al–P dynamics govern their reactivity. Abstract (

Chevalones H–M: Six New α-Pyrone Meroterpenoids from the Gorgonian Coral-Derived Fungus Aspergillus hiratsukae SCSIO 7S2001

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2022
Six new α-pyrone meroterpenoid chevalones H–M (1–6), together with six known compounds (7–12), were isolated from the gorgonian coral-derived fungus Aspergillus hiratsukae SCSIO 7S2001 collected from Mischief Reef in the South China Sea. Their structures,

Mesityl‐Substituted Azuleno[1′,2′:4,5]pyrrolo[2,3‐b]quinoxalines: Synthesis, Functionalization, Photophysical, and Electrochemical Properties

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 26, 13 July 2026.
Azuleno[1′,2′:4,5]pyrrolo[2,3‐b]quinoxaline with a mesityl group as a solubilizing group was synthesized. By synthesizing derivatives in which various functional groups were introduced into two electronically distinct sites, the pyrrole nitrogen atom and the azulene five‐membered ring, we were able to reveal that the photophysical and electrochemical ...

Fungal metabolite 6-pentyl-α-pyrone reduces canine coronavirus infection

open access: yesHeliyon
Canine coronavirus (CCoV) can produce a self-limited enteric disease in dogs but, because of notable biological plasticity of coronaviruses (CoVs), numerous mutations as well as recombination events happen leading to the emergence of variants often more ...
