Biosynthesis of α-pyrones

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2016
The α-pyrone moiety is a structural feature found in a huge variety of biologically active metabolites. In recent times new insights into additional biosynthetic mechanisms, yielding in such six-membered unsaturated ester ring residues have been obtained.

New Insights into Chemical and Biological Properties of Funicone-like Compounds

open access: yesToxins, 2022
Funicone-like compounds are a homogeneous group of polyketides that, so far, have only been reported as fungal secondary metabolites. In particular, species in the genus Talaromyces seem to be the most typical producers of this group of secondary ...

Convergent Total Synthesis of 16β‐Hydroxylpseudobufarenogin

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
We present a novel convergent strategy that integrates Pd/Ag‐promoted Suzuki–Miyaura coupling with Ir‐catalyzed radical‐relay cyclization, enabling the first total synthesis of 16β‐hydroxylpseudobufarenogin. This approach is broadly applicable to the total synthesis of various oxygenated bufadienolides by simply modifying the fragment structures ...

An Efficient Chemoenzymatic Approach towards the Synthesis of Rugulactone

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Rugulactone is a natural product isolated from the plant Cryptocarya rugulosa. It has shown very important biological activity as an inhibitor of the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) activation pathway.

(2‐Phosphinophenyl)aluminum Dichloride Complexes as Intramolecular Al/P Frustrated Lewis Pairs for Ketone, Ester, and Imine Activation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Three 2‐phosphinophenylaluminum dichloride complexes were synthesized and characterized as novel intramolecular FLPs. These FLP systems exhibit high Lewis acidity and effectively activate challenging substrates including aliphatic ketones, imines, and esters. DFT analysis revealed that strain release and Al–P dynamics govern their reactivity. Abstract (

Push–Pull Ynamines and Push–Pull Ynamides: Synthesis, Structure, Reactivity, and Application

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Push–pull ynamines and push–pull ynamides, which carry an EWG and an amino or amido group as EDG, are highly interesting classes of EDG‐EWG alkynes that have been intensively studied due to their exceptional reactivity. In this review, the synthesis, structure, reactivity, and application of push–pull ynamines, push–pull ynecarbamates, push–pull ...

Evaluation of anti-microbial potential of hydroxycoumarins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Coumarins comprise a very large class of substances found in plants and are made of fused benzene and α-pyrone rings. More than 1300 coumarins have been identified, principally as secondary metabolites in green plants but also in fungi and bacteria ...
