Overview of β-Glucans from Laminaria spp.: Immunomodulation Properties and Applications on Biologic Models

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2017
Glucans are a group of glucose polymers that are found in bacteria, algae, fungi, and plants. While their properties are well known, their biochemical and solubility characteristics vary considerably, and glucans obtained from different sources can have ...

Potential of endophytic Beauveria bassiana against Coraebus (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) oak borers

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that an endophytic, oak‐associated strain of Beauveria bassiana exhibits adaptations to Quercus plants and potential against Coraebus boring beetles, supported by distinctive biological traits. Abstract BACKGROUND Oak borers in the genus Coraebus, including the bark‐ and the wood‐boring beetles C. florentinus and C. undatus, are

Potential Application of Yeast β-Glucans in Food Industry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Different β-glucans are found in a variety of natural sources such as bacteria, yeast, algae, mushrooms, barley and oat. They have potential use in medicine and pharmacy, food, cosmetic and chemical industries, in veterinary medicine and feed production.

Agrobacterium sp.-derived β-1,3-glucan enhances natural killer cell activity in healthy adults: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The present study investigated the hypothesis that a highly pure linear β-1,3-glucan produced by Agrobacterium sp. R259 enhances human natural killer (NK) cell activity and suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines.

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

Application of dietary supplements (synbiotics and probiotics in combination with plant products and β-glucans) in aquaculture

open access: yes, 2016
This review addresses the dietary supplements, synbiotics and probiotics in combination with plant products or yeast/β-glucans in aquaculture. The potential applications of synbiotics have a relatively short history in aquaculture, but have generated ...

In vitro evaluation of azole fungicide sensitivity in Fusarium langsethiae, F. tricinctum, F. poae and F. sporotrichioides populations from Irish oats

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Microtitre plate assays of 286 Irish oat isolates show species‐specific azole sensitivity. In Fusarium langsethiae, mefentrifluconazole and tebuconazole sensitivities correlate, defining four phenotypes and supporting resistance monitoring and integrated control.

Deciphering Branched Galactomannan Structures via Multistage Ion Mobility MS and MSn Fragmentation (Multistage IMSn)

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale Hemicelluloses are abundant carbohydrate components in plant cell walls. They play a crucial structural role in binding cellulose microfibrils, in addition to other biological functions. Their high structural variability directly influences their biological properties, making it important to establish a structure–function ...

Intestinal health and mucosal immunity in the young animal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
One of the strategies to maintain optimal gut health in animal production in the absence of antibiotic growth promoters is to support the active immunity of the animal.
