A systematic scoping review of metrics utilized to measure antibiotic consumption in hospital settings

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs were introduced to promote the judicious use of antimicrobials and to combat antimicrobial resistance. Quantifying antibiotic consumption is an important part of AMS initiatives to achieve these objectives.

Oral β-lactam combinations are effective in vitro against Mycobacterium avium, regardless of clarithromycin susceptibility

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
The global incidence and prevalence of pulmonary disease caused by the Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), mainly comprising M. avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare, is increasing.

β-Lactam Antibiotics Enhance the Pathogenicity of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus via SarA-Controlled Lipoprotein-Like Cluster Expression

open access: yesmBio, 2019
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) resists nearly all β-lactam antibiotics that have a bactericidal activity. However, whether the empirically used β-lactams enhance MRSA pathogenicity in vivo remains unclear.

Population pharmacokinetic modelling of amoxicillin in human breast milk—A contribution from the ConcePTION project

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Amoxicillin, a widely used β‐lactam antibiotic, requires improved pharmacokinetic characterization during breastfeeding. This study used a population pharmacokinetic (PopPK) approach to model amoxicillin concentrations in breast milk, identify variability sources and estimate infant exposure, applying worst‐case scenarios.

Bifunctional Photocatalysts: Exploiting Proximity for Enhanced Reaction Performance

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This review covers the application of the bifunctional approach to photocatalysis as a means to attain (enhanced) enantioselectivity, and, more in general, as a strategy to enhance the catalytic performance through an effective use of short‐lived reaction intermediates.

Iridium‐Catalyzed Linear‐Selective sp3 C−H Alkylation of N‐Methylamides Using Alkenes Enabled by Diphosphite Ligands

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
An iridium‐catalyzed linear‐selective sp3 C─H alkylation of N‐methylamides with alkenes is described. This method tolerates various N‐methylacetamide derivatives and has a broad alkene scope. Mechanistic studies were also conducted. Internal alkenes can also be used through in situ consecutive alkene isomerization.

Synthesis and Biological Profile of Substituted Pyrrolidinyl Carboxamides for Acyl‐ACP Thioesterase Inhibition

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
The work outlined herein covers a series of novel herbicidal lead structures that possess a pyrrolidinyl pyrazole carboxamide scaffold as a key structural feature, carrying further substituted benzyl side chains. Based on scaffold hopping approaches from known fungicidal and herbicidal compounds and utilizing an optimized synthetic approach, a broader ...
