Mixing Signals: Molecular Turn Ons and Turn Offs for Innate γδ T-Cells [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Lymphocytes of the gamma delta (γδ) T-cell lineage are evolutionary conserved and although they express rearranged antigen-specific receptors, a large proportion respond as innate effectors. γδ T-cells are poised to combat infection by responding rapidly to cytokine stimuli similar to innate lymphoid cells.

Controversies concerning thymus-derived regulatory T cells: fundamental issues and a new perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Thymus-derived regulatory T cells (Tregs) are considered to be a distinct T-cell lineage that is genetically programmed and specialised for immunosuppression.

Human Vδ2+ γδ T Cells Differentially Induce Maturation, Cytokine Production, and Alloreactive T Cell Stimulation by Dendritic Cells and B Cells [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Human γδ T cells expressing the Vγ9Vδ2 T cell receptor can induce maturation of dendritic cells (DC) into antigen-presenting cells (APC) and B cells into antibody-secreting plasma cells. Since B cells are capable of presenting antigens to T cells, we investigated if Vγ9Vδ2 T cells can influence antigen-presentation by these cells. We report that Vγ9Vδ2

A monoclonal antibody against T-cell receptor αβ induces endogenous cytokines and prevents mice from a lethal infection withListeria monocytogenes [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Immunology & Medical Microbiology, 1995
In vivo induction of cytokines by a monoclonal antibody (mAb) against T-cell receptor (TCR) alpha beta and the protective effect induced by the mAb on a lethal infection with Listeria monocytogenes were studied. Injection of anti-TCR alpha beta mAb induced rapid production of endogenous tumour necrosis factor in the spleens, and gamma interferon and ...

Expanded Human Blood-Derived γδT Cells Display Potent Antigen-Presentation Functions [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Cell-based immunotherapy strategies target tumors directly (via cytolytic effector cells) or aim at mobilizing endogenous anti-tumor immunity. The latter approach includes dendritic cells (DC) most frequently in the form of in vitro cultured peripheral blood monocytes-derived DC.

A Novel Prothrombotic Pathway in Systemic Sclerosis Patients: Possible Role of Bisphosphonate-Activated γδ T Cells [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Infusions of aminobisphonates (ABP) activate Vγ9δ2T cells in vivo and induce an acute inflammatory response in 30% of patients treated for osteoporosis. Following the observation of digital thrombosis in a systemic sclerosis (SSc) patient after treatment with an intravenous ABP, zoledronate (Zol), we evaluated whether patient and control peripheral ...

Pathogen-Specific Immune Fingerprints during Acute Infection: The Diagnostic Potential of Human γδ T-Cells [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
The last 200 years have seen a dramatic reduction in the prevalence and severity of microbial infections, due to the implementation of groundbreaking measures ranging from improved sanitation and hygiene and the introduction of aseptic techniques to the development of successful vaccines and the discovery of effective antibiotics.

A Highly Focused Antigen Receptor Repertoire Characterizes γδ T Cells That are Poised to Make IL-17 Rapidly in Naive Animals [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2015
Interleukin (IL)-17 plays a key role in immunity. In acute infections, a rapid IL-17 response must be induced without prior antigen exposure, and γδ T cells are the major initial IL-17 producers. In fact, some γδ T cells make IL-17 within hours after an immune challenge. These cells appear to acquire the ability to respond to IL-1 and IL-23 and to make

γδ T cells as a potential therapeutic agent for glioblastoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Although γδ T cells comprise a small population of T cells, they perform important roles in protecting against infection and suppressing tumors. With their distinct tissue-localizing properties, combined with their various target recognition mechanisms ...

A screen of Crohn's disease-associated microbial metabolites identifies ascorbate as a novel metabolic inhibitor of activated human T cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Microbial metabolites are an emerging class of mediators influencing CD4+ T-cell function. To advance the understanding of direct causal microbial factors contributing to Crohn's disease, we screened 139 predicted Crohn's disease-associated microbial ...
