Association between semen microbiome disorder and sperm DNA damage

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
DNA fragmentation index (DFI), a new biomarker to diagnose male infertility, is closely associated with poor reproductive outcomes. Previous research reported that seminal microbiome correlated with sperm DNA integrity, suggesting that the microbiome may

Influence of 16S Ribosomal RNA Gene Polymerase Chain Reaction and Sequencing on Antibiotic Management of Bone and Joint Infections

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2013
INTRODUCTION: Amplification of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by analysis of generated sequences can be an important adjunct to conventional cultures.

Tick-associated diseases identified from hunting dogs during the COVID-19 pandemic in a Mayan community in Yucatan, Mexico

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal, 2023
Background: Hunting activity in the Mayan communities has increased due to COVID-19 and domestic dogs have gained more importance. Due to its proximity to humans, domestic dogs are a bridge between tick-borne diseases and humans and their peri-domestic ...

Use of RNA secondary structure for evolutionary relationships : investigating RNase P and RNase MRP : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Genetics at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Bioinformatics is applied here to examine whether RNA secondary structure data can reflect distant evolutionary relationships. This is important when there is little confidence in sequence data such as when looking at the evolution of RNase MRP (MRP ...

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Glossaulax reiniana (Littorinimorpha: Naticidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2018
In the present study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Glossaulax reiniana was determined using the next-generation sequencing. The circular genome was found to be 15,254 bp in length and had an overall nucleotide composition of 30.6% A, 14.1% C, 15 ...

16S ribosomal RNA sequencing reveals a modulation of intestinal microbiome and immune response by dietary L-theanine supplementation in broiler chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2018
Despite the availability of abundant literature on green tea, studies on the use of L‐theanine (an amino acid found only in green tea) as a feed additive in poultry especially broiler are limited.

The subcellular distribution of phosphorylated Y‐box‐binding protein‐1 at S102 in colorectal cancer patients, stratified by KRAS mutational status and clinicopathological features

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies nuclear YB‐1 S102 phosphorylation as a marker associated with KRAS and FBXW7 mutations in colorectal cancer. Mutated KRAS correlates specifically with nuclear, not cytoplasmic, S102 YB‐1. These findings provide the first ex vivo evidence of this link in CRC and suggest future studies should assess the prognostic and therapeutic ...

Frequency of Bacetrial Content Finding in Persistant Periapical Lesions

open access: yesActa Stomatologica Croatica, 2017
Objectives: To determine the percentage of persistant apical lesions positive for bacterial nucleic acids, to detect microorganisms difficult to cultivate in persistant apical lesions by PCR and relate them to endodontic failure, clinical symptoms and ...

Aneurysm Infection Caused by Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2023
An 84-year-old man in Japan who had undergone endovascular aortic repair 9 years earlier had an infected aneurysm develop. We detected Desulfovibrio desulfuricans MB at the site.
