25-hydroxycholesterol: Gatekeeper of intestinal IgA
Immunity, 2021High levels of cholesterol and diets high in fat are associated with immune dysfunction and inflammatory disease. In this issue of Immunity, Trindade et al. (2021) report how the cholesterol metabolite 25-hydroxycholesterol restrains IgA plasma cell differentiation from germinal-center B cells in the Peyer's patches through regulation of the sterol ...

Investigation on the synthesis of 25-hydroxycholesterol
Steroids, 2014A very efficient and environmentally benign method has been developed for the synthesis of 25-hydroxycholesterol. The reaction was performed in THF-water (4:1, v/v) using NBS as the brominating agent, followed by the easy reduction of C-Br with lithium aluminum hydride in THF, to yield the final product corresponding to a Markovnikov's rule.

Synthesis of ent-25-hydroxycholesterol
Steroids, 200625-Hydroxycholesterol (25-HC) appears to play a role in several important biological processes, including regulating cellular cholesterol levels and promoting apoptosis. However, in most cases the mechanisms by which 25-HC elicits its biological effects are not known.
