The RNA-binding protein LARP1 is a post-transcriptional regulator of survival and tumorigenesis in ovarian cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are increasingly identified as post-transcriptional drivers of cancer progression. The RBP LARP1 is an mRNA stability regulator, and elevated expression of the protein in hepatocellular and lung cancers is correlated with ...

Genetic characterization of the coxsackievirus B2 3′ untranslated region

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2001
The secondary structure of the 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR) of picornaviruses is thought to be important for the initiation of negative-strand RNA synthesis. In this study, genetic and biological analyses of the 3′ terminus of coxsackievirus B2 (CVB2), which differs from other enteroviruses due to the presence of five additional nucleotides prior to ...

Leveraging omic features with F3UTER enables identification of unannotated 3’UTRs for synaptic genes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
3’ untranslated regions (3’UTRs) play a crucial role in regulating gene expression, but our 3’UTR catalogue is incomplete. Here, the authors develop a machine learning-based framework to predict previously unannotated 3’UTRs in 39 human tissues.

Chimerization of antibodies by isolation of rearranged genomic variable regions by the polymerase chain reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
We describe a new method for amplification, by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), of rearranged segments encoding the variable part of light and heavy chains of an antibody (Ab) from the chromosomal DNA of hybridoma cells for the chimerization ofAbs.

3'-UTR SIRF: A database for identifying clusters of short interspersed repeats in 3' untranslated regions

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2007
Background Short (~5 nucleotides) interspersed repeats regulate several aspects of post-transcriptional gene expression. Previously we developed an algorithm (REPFIND) that assigns P-values to all repeated motifs in a given nucleic acid sequence and ...

The alpha-synuclein 5'untranslated region targeted translation blockers: anti-alpha synuclein efficacy of cardiac glycosides and Posiphen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Increased brain α-synuclein (SNCA) protein expression resulting from gene duplication and triplication can cause a familial form of Parkinson's disease (PD).

The potential for reassortment between Oropouche and Schmallenberg Orthobunyaviruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A number of viruses within the Peribunyaviridae family are naturally occurring reassortants, a common phenomenon for segmented viruses. Using a minigenome-reporter and virus-like particle (VLP) production assay, we have accessed the potential of ...

The 3′-untranslated region of rat lysyl oxidase cDNA

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1995
The cloning of the 3'-untranslated region of rat lysyl oxidase cDNA was completed. cDNA clones were generated by reverse transcriptase PCR from neonatal rat aorta smooth muscle cell RNA, and sequenced. Several polyadenylated clones were obtained, providing 2.1 kb of new sequence. Clones were polyadenylated at three different positions.

Genomic Organization, Splice Variants and Expression of CGMl, a CD66-related Member of the Carcinoembryonic Antigen Gene Family [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The tumor marker carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) belongs to a family of proteins which are composed of one immunogiobulin variable domain and a varying number of immunoglobulin constant-like domains.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
