A SspI PCR-RFLP detecting a silent allele at the goat CSN2 locus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The comparison between the cDNA sequence obtained and the published sequences of the goat CSN2 alleles showed a new single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (transition C-T) at the 180th nucleotide of the ninth exon.

Translational control of maskin mRNA by its 3′ untranslated region [PDF]

open access: yesBiology of the Cell, 2007
Background information. Maskin is a member of the TACC (transforming acidic coiled‐coil) domain proteins found in Xenopus laevis oocytes and embryos. It has been implicated in the co‐ordination of the spindle and has been reported to mediate translational repression of cyclin B1 mRNA.Results.

Reprogramming of 3′ Untranslated Regions of mRNAs by Alternative Polyadenylation in Generation of Pluripotent Stem Cells from Different Cell Types

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
Background The 3′ untranslated regions (3′UTRs) of mRNAs contain cis elements involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Over half of all mammalian genes contain multiple polyadenylation sites that lead to different 3′UTRs for a gene.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

The 5 ' untranslated region of protein kinase C delta directs translation by an internal ribosome entry segment that is most active in densely growing cells and during apoptosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Protein kinase Cdelta (PKCdelta) is a member of the PKC family of phospholipid-dependent serine/threonine kinases and is involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation.

Widespread Shortening of 3’ Untranslated Regions and Increased Exon Inclusion Are Evolutionarily Conserved Features of Innate Immune Responses to Infection

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2015
The contribution of pre-mRNA processing mechanisms to the regulation of immune responses remains poorly studied despite emerging examples of their role as regulators of immune defenses.

Characterization of the Human Ornithine Transcarbamylase 3′ Untranslated Regulatory Region [PDF]

open access: yesDNA and Cell Biology, 2012
Mutations in the untranslated regulatory regions of genes may result in abnormal gene expression or transcriptional regulation. In this study, we characterize the ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) mRNA isoforms of the X-linked OTC gene involved in the urea formation in the liver.

Domain associated with zinc fingers‐containing NF90‐NF45 complex inhibits m6A modification of primary microRNA by suppressing METTL3/14 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NF90–NF45 functions as a negative regulator of methyltransferase‐like 3/14 (METTL3/14)‐mediated N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) modification on primary microRNAs (pri‐miRNAs). NF90–NF45 binds to anti‐oncogenic pri‐miRNAs and inhibits their m6A modification, thereby suppressing the biogenesis of anti‐oncogenic miRNAs.

Properties of untranslated regions of the S. cerevisiae genome

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2009
Background During evolution selection forces such as changing environments shape the architecture of genomes. The distribution of genes along chromosomes and the length of intragenic regions are basic genomic features known to play a major role in the ...

Ornithine Decarboxylase mRNA is Stabilized in an mTORC1-dependent Manner in Ras-transformed Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Upon Ras activation, ODC (ornithine decarboxylase) is markedly induced, and numerous studies suggest that ODC expression is controlled by Ras effector pathways. ODC is therefore a potential target in the treatment and prevention of Ras-driven tumours. In
