Umbilical Cord Blood–Derived Extracellular Vesicles Enhance Neurovascular Regeneration and Improve Erectile Function in a Mouse Model of Bilateral Cavernous Nerve Injury

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Erectile dysfunction (ED) secondary to cavernous nerve injury (CNI), such as that occurring after radical prostatectomy, remains a significant clinical challenge, particularly among patients who do not respond to phosphodiesterase Type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i).

Novel targets in headache: A narrative review

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives/Background This narrative review summarizes novel applications for the use of calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP)‐targeted therapies that go beyond migraine, the latest updates with respect to targeting pituitary adenylate cyclase‐activating peptide (PACAP) as therapeutic in migraine, as well as exploring other more recently ...

Nitration of H2B histone elicits an immune response in experimental animals

open access: yesAutoimmunity, 2017
Histone H2B is an autoantigen that appears in circulation due to altered apoptosis/or insufficient clearance and is likely to be involved in the induction and progression of autoimmune diseases since modified-H2B is immunogenic.

LGR6 couples maresin 1 signaling to glycolytic flux and protein lactylation for the rescue of diabetic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
MaR1 activates LGR6‐AMPK signaling to restore metabolic flexibility in diabetic hearts. Glycolytic recovery replenishes intracellular lactate to rescue protective protein lysine lactylation, which reactivates PINK1/Parkin‐mediated mitophagy to eliminate damaged mitochondria.

Increase of nitrosative stress in patients with eosinophilic pneumonia

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2011
Background Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) production is increased in asthma and reflects the degree of airway inflammation. The alveolar NO concentration (Calv) in interstitial pneumonia is reported to be increased.

Excessive training does not induce mitochondrial dysfunction or impair insulin signalling within skeletal muscle

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Three weeks of overtraining in trained endurance athletes reduced exercise performance without impairing glucose tolerance. In skeletal muscle, overtraining was associated with increased expression of lipid metabolism‐related proteins, enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis and preserved insulin signalling, despite elevated oxidative ...

The influence of Finnish sauna treatments on the concentrations of nitric oxide, 3-nitrotyrosine and selected markers of oxidative status in training and non-training men

open access: yesInternational Journal of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health, 2020
Objectives The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of repeated Finnish sauna baths on the concentrations of nitric oxide metabolites (NO x ) and 3-nitrotyrosine in relation to pro-oxidative and antioxidative status in young males with different ...

Human placental exposure to pollutant nanoparticles: uptake, translocation and functional impact

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Prenatal exposure to pollutant nanoparticles has been increasingly investigated due to concerns about their potential effects on placental function and pregnancy outcomes. Maternal inhalation of pollutant nanoparticles can result in a pro‐inflammatory response; particles can also translocate across the alveolus epithelial barrier

Mitochondrial oxidative stress and epilepsy in SOD2 deficient mice: Attenuation by a lipophilic metalloporphyrin

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2012
Epileptic seizures are a common feature associated with inherited mitochondrial diseases. This study investigated the role of mitochondrial oxidative stress in epilepsy resulting from mitochondrial dysfunction using cross-bred mutant mice lacking ...

Nitrosative Stress in the Frontal Cortex From Dogs With Canine Cognitive Dysfunction

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2020
Canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD) is an age-related disorder similar to human Alzheimer's disease (AD) that occurs in elderly dogs. Nitrosative stress has been implicated as one of the causes leading to neurodegenerative diseases, particularly AD.
