Combined application of Bacillus velezensis JDB15 and Trichoderma harzianum JDL4 suppresses banana Fusarium wilt under controlled conditions

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The surfactin C secreted by JDB15 and the probable parasitism of JDL4 lead to the leakage of intracellular macromolecules and the degradation of hyphae, respectively. Combined application of the two strains effectively controls banana Fusarium wilt under controlled conditions.

Influence of yeast autolysis after alcoholic fermentation on the development of Brettanomyces/Dekkera in wine

open access: yesOENO One, 2001
Brettanomyces, a contaminant yeast, is relatively common in wines and mainly in red wines during barrel aging. The results presented here relate to the effects of yeast lees autolysis on the growth of Brettanomyces. Experiments were realised in a culture

Controlled incubation, leachate, and pot assays of shrimp shell‐based compost for suppressing Verticillium dahliae in olive

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Shrimp shell compost suppresses Verticillium dahliae microsclerotia, enhances chitinase activity, lowers olive wilt severity and improves plant recovery under controlled conditions. Abstract BACKGROUND Verticillium wilt of olive (Olea europaea L.), caused by Verticillium dahliae Kleb., is difficult to manage because long‐lived microsclerotia persist in

Root georeaction affected by exo-β-D-(l,3)-glucanase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Two hour pretreatment with exo-β-D-(l,3)-glucanase cause (at a concentration of 0.4 unit/ml) significant stimulation of the georeaction of maize apical root segments, horizontally placed for 7 hr. Implications of this enzyme effect on cell wall extension

Reversible accumulation of (1→3,1→4)‐β‐glucan endohydrolase in wheat leaves under sugar depletion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A (1→3,1→4)‐β‐D‐glucan endohydrolase [(1→3,1→4)‐β‐glucanase, EC 3.2.1.73] was detected in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) leaves by Western analyses and activity measurements.

Safety evaluation of the food enzyme containing endo‐polygalacturonase and endo‐1,3(4)‐β‐glucanase from the non‐genetically modified Aspergillus fijiensis strain NZYM‐RE

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2022
The food enzyme has two declared activities, endo‐polygalacuronase ((1→4)‐α‐D‐galacturonan glycanohydrolase; EC 3.2.1.15) and endo‐1,3(4)‐β‐glucanase (3‐(1→3;1→4)‐β‐D‐glucan 3(4)‐glucanohydrolase; EC 3.2.1.6) and is produced with the non‐genetically ...

Biocontrol and plant growth‐promoting potential of Streptomyces strains against fungal pathogens of tomato and wheat for a sustainable agriculture

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights the biocontrol potential of Streptomyces strain Strep_22. In vitro, it inhibits key fungal pathogens by 91.52%. In vivo, it significantly reduces disease incidence in wheat and tomato while enhancing biomass, shoot, and root development, offering a highly promising, sustainable ecological alternative to chemical pesticides ...

Russian wheat aphid: a model for genomic plasticity and a challenge to breeders

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Invasive foundress finds suitable habitat and reproduces through pathogenesis. Wingless females produce life offspring quickly, which leads to high population densities. High population densities result in competition, which may induce epigenetic changes and wing development for dispersal.

Defence reactions in the apoplastic proteome of oilseed rape (Brassica napus var. napus) attenuate Verticillium longisporum growth but not disease symptoms

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2008
Background Verticillium longisporum is one of the most important pathogens of Brassicaceae that remains strictly in the xylem during most stages of its development. It has been suggested that disease symptoms are associated with clogging of xylem vessels.
