Cumulative Social Disadvantage and Disease Activity in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Social determinants of health (SDOH) contribute to juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) disparities, but most studies have assessed SDOH independently rather than cumulatively across individual, family, and neighborhood levels. Using a socioecological framework, we investigated the relationship among cumulative social disadvantage ...

Study of nerve fibers nature reinforcing duodenal contractions by electrical stimulation of sympathetic nerve [PDF]

open access: yesСаратовский научно-медицинский журнал, 2011
The subject of the article is to investigate the mechanism of increased reactions by electrical stimulation of the sympathetic nerve. Materials and methods: Experiments on dogs have shown that stimulant reactions during blockade of a-adrenergic by ...

Pain and Patient‐Reported Physical Function Did Not Differ Among Body Composition Profiles in Patients With Hip Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To explore whether higher body fat and lower lean mass are associated with greater pain and worse patient‐reported physical function in individuals with hip osteoarthritis (OA). A secondary aim was to examine whether pain and patient‐reported physical function differ according to four body composition profiles: high body fat, low lean mass ...

Low molecular mass chondroitin sulfate suppresses chronic unpredictable mild stress-induced depression-like behavior in mice

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica, 2018
The present study is aimed at testing the antidepressant--like effects and probable mechanisms of action of low molecular mass chondroitin sulfate (LMMCS) on depression induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) in mice.

Serotonin Modulates Oscillations of the Membrane Potential in Isolated Spinal Neurons from Lampreys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Studies were performed on spinal neurons from lampreys isolated by an enzymatic/mechanical method using pronase. The effects of 100 µM serotonin (5-HT) on membrane potential oscillations induced by a variety of excitatory amino acids were studied.

Impact of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting: a retrospective cohort study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: 1(st) generation 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor antagonists (5-HT(3) RAs), and palonosetron, a 2(nd) generation 5-HT(3) RA, are indicated for the prevention of chemotherapy (CT)-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) associated with moderately (MEC)

Discordance between systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index domain weights and their association with organ damage accrual

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Studies of damage accrual in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) show associations with disease activity measured by the SLE Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI‐2K), but these associations are imperfect. SLEDAI scores are powerfully influenced by weightings (1‐8) assigned to each domain.

Divergent Roles of Central Serotonin in Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2017
The central serotonin (5-HT) system is the main target of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), the first-line antidepressants widely used in current general practice.

Endocrinological Responses to 5‐HTa

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1990
There is increasing evidence that neuroendocrine and temperature responses in humans can be employed to study the functional sensitivity of different 5-HT receptor subtypes. The evidence suggests that the PRL response to LTP is mediated by 5-HT1 receptors, perhaps the 5-HT1A subtype, though further studies are needed to confirm this effect.

Altered ureteral contractility with ageing:Role of the rho-kinase pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This study investigated the role of calcium sensitisation in the regulation of ureteral contractility with ageing. Isolated ureteral strips from young (6-month old) and older (3-year old) pigs were mounted in Krebs bicarbonate solution and contractility ...
