Attenuated PLD1 association and signalling at the H452Y polymorphic form of the 5-HT(2A) receptor [PDF]
The 5-HT(2A) receptor (5-HT(2A)R) is implicated in psychotropic changes within the central nervous system (CNS). A number of polymorphisms have been reported in the 5-HT(2A)R gene; one of these results in a non-synonymous change, H452Y, in the carboxy ...

Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

ラットにおけるセロトニン誘発気管支収縮に対するサルポグレラートの作用 [PDF]
A bolus injection of 5-HT (32μg/kg) into the right atrium immediately induced Bezold-Jarisch reflex (hypotension, bradycardia and apnea) and delayed bronchoconstriction (assumed by decreased air flow and increased intrapleural pressure) in anesthetized,

The influence of 5-HT(2C) and MDR1 genetic polymorphisms on antipsychotic-induced weight gain in female schizophrenic patients [PDF]
We investigated the relationships between functional genetic variants of the 5-HT(2C) receptor and multidrug-resistant protein (MDR1), coding for P-glycoprotein, and second generation antipsychotic (SDA)-induced weight gain among 108 female schizophrenic

Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine on spermatozoal hyperactivation and in vitro fertilization in mice
In this study, we examined the effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) on the motility and hyperactivation of mouse spermatozoa. In addition, we examined whether 5-HT increases the success of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in mice.

Quinine blocks 5-HT and 5-HT3 receptor mediated peristalsis in both guinea pig and mouse ileum tissue [PDF]
Introduction. Quinine is commonly used to treat malaria; however one of the principal side effects is gastrointestinal disturbances (White, 1992). 5-HT3 receptors modulate gut peristalsis (Chetty et al., 2006), and, as quinine has been shown to act as a ...

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Control of serotonergic neurons in rat brain by dopaminergic receptors outside the dorsal raphe nucleus [PDF]
We studied the control of dorsal raphe (DR) serotonergic neurons by dopaminergic transmission in rat brain using microdialysis and single unit extracellular recordings. Apomorphine (0.5–3.0 mg/kg s.c.) and quinpirole (0.5 mg/kg s.c.) increased serotonin (

Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
