Epigenetic Regulation of Liver Fibrosis: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes the epigenetic mechanisms—DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non‐coding RNAs—that drive hepatic stellate cell activation and the progression of liver fibrosis. It further evaluates emerging therapeutic strategies targeting these epigenetic regulators, including DNA methyltransferase and histone deacetylase inhibitors ...

Identification and Discrimination of Sulfated and Unsulfated Gut‐Hormone Biomarkers in Human Serum by Nanopore

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This study discriminates between sulfated and unsulfated cholecystokinin‐8 gut‐hormone forms at single‐molecule‐level resolution. Using an aerolysin nanopore embedded in a hybrid lipid‐polymer membrane, the system produces distinct electrical signatures enabling highly sensitive detection, even in 20% human serum.

Effects of Tributyltin Chloride on Human Neuronal Differentiation and Mice Brain Development

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT According to the developmental origins of health and disease hypothesis, perinatal exposure to an environmental toxicant during the development of the nervous system could cause a permanent cellular modification that may promote the appearance of neurodegenerative diseases at an older age.

Tet proteins: on track towards DNA demethylation?

open access: yesBiomolecular Concepts, 2012
Dynamic DNA methylation is a prerequisite for many developmental processes and maintenance of cellular integrity. In mammals however, mechanisms of active DNA demethylation have for long been elusive.

Russian wheat aphid: a model for genomic plasticity and a challenge to breeders

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Invasive foundress finds suitable habitat and reproduces through pathogenesis. Wingless females produce life offspring quickly, which leads to high population densities. High population densities result in competition, which may induce epigenetic changes and wing development for dispersal.

Function and Detection of 5-Methylcytosine in eukaryotic RNA

open access: yesEpigenomics, 2010
Modified nucleosides play an important role in RNA function and have been identified in multiple RNA types, including tRNAs, rRNAs, mRNAs and small regulatory RNAs. Among these, 5-methylcytosine (m(5)C) has been detected in rRNAs and tRNAs, and early reports suggested its presence in mRNAs.

NSUN5 promotes cholangiocarcinoma progression by enhancing GLS mRNA stabilization

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology
Background NSUN5, also known as NOP2/Sun domain 5, is a pivotal RNA methyltransferase that catalyzes the formation of 5-methylcytosine (m5C). Cuproptosis, induced by elevated copper concentrations, is under investigation as a potential therapeutic ...

Oncogenic BRAF and KRAS Promote Global DNA Hypomethylation Through a Directed Pathway That Upregulates TET3

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Oncogenic BRAF and KRAS promote global DNA hypomethylation through a directed pathway that increases the levels of TET3, which helps drive tumorigenesis. ABSTRACT Aberrant epigenetic modification is one of the characteristics of the cancer genome.

YBX1 Promotes Malignant Progression of HNSCC via Stabilizing NSUN2‐m5C Modified ATF4 mRNA

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
The diagram depicts the core axis and the key finding: “Targeting YBX1/NSUN2 abrogates HNSCC progression”. Within left‐sided HNSCC cells, NSUN2 mediates m5C methylation on the CDS of ATF4 mRNA; YBX1 then specifically recognizes and binds this modified site, augmenting ATF4 mRNA stability, which ultimately promotes cancer cell proliferation, migration ...
