Abscopal effect-induced spontaneous regression of distant metastases in malignant mesenchymal tumor: a case report [PDF]
The abscopal effect refers to an anti-tumor response that occurs in areas where radiotherapy (RT) has not been directly administered but is triggered by the immune system. We presented a case of an undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma with three relapses

Abscopal effect in a patient with malignant pleural mesothelioma treated with palliative radiotherapy and pembrolizumab [PDF]
The abscopal effect describes the ability of locally administered radiotherapy to induce systemic antitumor effects. Although mentioned for the first time in the 1950s, records of abscopal effects, considered to be immune-mediated, are scarce with ...

Microwave ablation induces abscopal effect via enhanced systemic antitumor immunity in colorectal cancer [PDF]
BackgroundThermal ablation is the primary procedure for the local treatment of lung metastases. It is known that radiotherapy and cryoablation can stimulate an abscopal effect, while the occurrence of abscopal effect induced by microwave ablation is less;

Pure abscopal effect in a patient with advanced uterine carcinosarcoma
The abscopal effect is a rare phenomenon, in which tumor shrinkage in the nonirradiated metastatic region is observed after radiotherapy. Certainly, this response is sometimes reported with the combined use of immune-checkpoint inhibitors, but a pure ...

Stromal barriers to the abscopal effect [PDF]
In this issue of Cancer Cell, Zhang et al. reveal that PAI-1-induced SFRP2high cancer-associated fibroblasts reduce the abscopal effect of radioimmunotherapy. Targeting PAI-1 or SFRP2 enhances T cell recruitment and prevents the formation of an immunosuppressive perivascular niche, improving radioimmunotherapy's abscopal effect.

A Review of the Abscopal Effect in the Era of Immunotherapy
The abscopal effect is a systemic immune response mediated by the effects of radiation on the immune system. This effect has been observed in a number of cancer types in addition to lung cancer, including but not limited to renal cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, lymphoma, and melanoma. The combination of radiation therapy and immune checkpoint

The abscopal effect (AbE) is defined as radiation-induced shrinkage of distant, non-treated, neoplastic lesions and it is considered the best clinical picture of the efficient immune stimulation by irradiation.

Abscopal effect in metastatic renal cell carcinoma
We report a case about a possible abscopal effect in a patient with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Palliative conventional radiation of a metastatic lesion in the neck was performed and in the months after this treatment had been applied, clearance of the non-irradiated lung metastases and a subcutaneous nodule was observed.

Abscopal effect of radiotherapy combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors
Radiotherapy (RT) is used routinely as a standard treatment for more than 50% of patients with malignant tumors. The abscopal effect induced by local RT, which is considered as a systemic anti-tumor immune response, reflects the regression of non ...
