Proportion Regulation in Globally Coupled Nonlinear Systems
As a model of proportion regulation in differentiation process of biological system, globally coupled activator-inhibitor systems are studied. Formation and destabilization of one and two cluster state are predicted analytically.

Roles of calcium/calmodulin-dependent kinase II in long-term memory formation in crickets. [PDF]
Ca(2+)/calmodulin (CaM)-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is a key molecule in many systems of learning and memory in vertebrates, but roles of CaMKII in invertebrates have not been characterized in detail.

Clinical study on the feasibility of new thrombus markers in predicting massive cerebral infarction
ObjectiveThis study investigated the diagnostic performance of the thrombin-antithrombin complex (TAT), plasmin-α2 plasmin inhibitor complex (PIC), tissue plasminogen activator-plasminogen activator inhibitor complex (t-PAIC), and thrombomodulin (TM) in ...

Scenarios of domain pattern formation in a reaction-diffusion system
We performed an extensive numerical study of a two-dimensional reaction-diffusion system of the activator-inhibitor type in which domain patterns can form.

Symmetric and Asymmetric Multiple Clusters In a Reaction-Diffusion System [PDF]
We consider the Gierer-Meinhardt system in the interval (-1,1) with Neumann boundary conditions for small diffusion constant of the activator and finite diffusion constant of the inhibitor. A cluster is a combination of several spikes concentrating

When cytokinin, a plant hormone, meets the adenosine A2A receptor: a novel neuroprotectant and lead for treating neurodegenerative disorders? [PDF]
It is well known that cytokinins are a class of phytohormones that promote cell division in plant roots and shoots. However, their targets, biological functions, and implications in mammalian systems have rarely been examined. In this study, we show that

Pattern formation for reactive species undergoing anisotropic diffusion [PDF]
Turing instabilities for a two species reaction-diffusion systems is studied under anisotropic diffusion. More specifically, the diffusion constants which characterize the ability of the species to relocate in space are direction sensitive.

Robust network topologies for generating oscillations with temperature-independent periods.
Nearly all living systems feature a temperature-independent oscillation period in circadian clocks. This ubiquitous property occurs at the system level and is rooted in the network architecture of the clock machinery. To investigate the mechanism of this

MASP-1 of the complement system enhances clot formation in a microvascular whole blood flow model. [PDF]
The complement and coagulation systems closely interact with each other. These interactions are believed to contribute to the proinflammatory and prothrombotic environment involved in the development of thrombotic complications in many diseases ...
