Aqueous Zinc‐Based Batteries: Active Materials, Device Design, and Future Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review conducts a comprehensive analysis of aqueous zinc‐based batteries (AZBs) based on their intrinsic mechanisms, including redox reactions, ion intercalation reactions, alloying reactions, electrochemical double‐layer reactions, and mixed mechanisms, systematically discussing recent advancements in each type of AZBs.

Divergent Synthesis and Crystal Engineering of Room‐Temperature Phosphorescent Carbonyl‐Bridged Triphenylamines

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Solid state packing of triphenylamine derivatives is modulated by the variation of aryl bridges, endowing a wide diversity of luminescence properties. Closely packed, parallel structures induce room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) dominated spectra with long RTP lifetimes (τPh), while nonparallel, more spaced motifs result in competitive fluorescence

Harnessing the Biological Responses Induced by Nanomaterials for Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
Nanomaterial (NM)‐induced toxicity can be strategically repurposed for cancer therapy. This review summarizes the mechanism by which NMs selectively activate specific cellular processes to regulate cell fate independently. We also discussed how NMs‐induced biological responses can be leveraged as therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.

Mechanochemical Degradation of Polystyrene Into Benzene for Recycling and Upcycling

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Mechanochemical degradation of polystyrene into benzene through ball milling is demonstrated for the first time. The benzene generated can be used to synthesize the styrene monomer for a closed‐loop recycling or be converted into benzophenone through a mechanochemical cascade Friedel–Crafts acylation for upcycling.

The Synthesis of Nonsymmetric α‐hydroxy‐ethylidenebisphosphonic Derivatives by the Pudovik Reaction, Their Reactions, and Cytotoxic Activity

open access: yesAsian Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Nonsymmetric α‐hydroxy‐ethylidenebisphosphonates (HEBPs) are synthesized by the Pudovik reaction of dialkyl α‐oxo‐ethylphosphonates and P‐reagents (such as dialkyl phosphites, alkyl phenyl‐H‐phosphinates or diarylphosphine oxides). In the presence of 40% diethylamine, the primary adducts rearrange to the corresponding phosphonoyl‐phosphonate and ...

Crown Ether–Peptide Rotaxanes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The synthesis of crown ether‐peptide rotaxanes is reported, incorporating a broad range of canonical and unnatural peptides into a threaded peptide backbone without the need for additional nonamide template sites in the axle. The 24C8 macrocycle is locked on the glycine residue used to assemble the rotaxane, allowing the formation of different ...

Binding to medium and long chain fatty acyls is a common property of HEAT and ARM repeat modules. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Covalent post-translational modification (PTM) of proteins with acyl groups of various carbon chain-lengths regulates diverse biological processes ranging from chromatin dynamics to subcellular localization.

Interdisciplinary Research-Based Learning in Organic Chemistry and Microbiology Laboratories: Synthesis and Biological Testing of Novel Penicillin Derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Interests in the mechanism that penicillin bestows on its target protein has driven the curiosity of its binding specificity towards the methicillin resistant strain of Staphylococcus areus, and its expression of a unique penicillin binding protein that ...

Palmitoylation of Desmoglein 2 Is a Regulator of Assembly Dynamics and Protein Turnover. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Desmosomes are prominent adhesive junctions present between many epithelial cells as well as cardiomyocytes. The mechanisms controlling desmosome assembly and remodeling in epithelial and cardiac tissue are poorly understood.
