Combating ageing beyond the cell: Emerging roles of extracellular proteostasis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Ageing challenges the body's ability to maintain a stable and functional proteome, leading to protein damage and aggregation both inside and outside cells. This review focuses on the less well understood mechanisms of extracellular protein quality control and how they become disrupted in ageing, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases.

Short‐term survival of mallards following external transmitter attachment

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
Capturing birds for external transmitter attachment allows researchers to collect abundant movement and behavioural data across spatial and temporal gradients but can expose birds to additional stress due to prolonged handling, sometimes leading to mortality.

Integrative transcriptomic and machine learning approaches reveal candidate genes for silk and venom production in Bibionomorpha (Diptera)

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
Multi‐species transcriptomics and deep learning identified candidate genes associated with silk and venom production in Bibionomorpha. Venom‐associated genes were enriched in proteases, inhibitors and pore‐forming proteins, whereas silk‐related genes showed chitin‐binding and peritrophin domains. Integrating co‐expression networks, machine learning and

Irradiation‐Induced CD62L Shedding in Human Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells Depends on ADAM17 and p38 MAPK

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Human plasmacytoid dendritic cell‐based vaccines efficiently migrate from blood to lymph nodes and prime naive T cells in humanised mice. Irradiation‐induced CD62L shedding, mediated by p38 MAP kinase and ADAM17, is involved in the regulation of PDC migration to secondary lymphoid organs in this model.

Melanoma and Other Melanistic Lesions in Brown Bullhead Ameiurus nebulosus From Waterbodies in the Northeastern United States and Canada: Identification of Risk Factors

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Melanistic lesions, including non‐raised black areas due to proliferations of melanocytes and melanomacrophages in the dermis and epidermis, as well as raised black areas consistent with melanoma, are described in brown bullhead (BBH) Ameiurus nebulosus from three water bodies in the northeastern United States and Quebec, Canada.
