Erianin inhibits 3T3-L1 adipocyte differentiation through downregulation of CCAAT-enhancer binding protein-α and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ, lipogenic genes and impairment of mitochondrial respiration

open access: yesAdipocyte
Erianin, a natural bibenzyl compound, has recently garnered attention owing to its diverse biological activities. In the present study, we investigated the effects of Erianin on adipocyte differentiation, lipid metabolism, and mitochondrial respiration ...

Detachment‐Induced FAK‐STAT3‐NNMT Inhibits CTCs Anoikis to Promote Breast Cancer Metastasis by Enhancing Fatty Acid Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The FAK‐STAT3‐NNMT axis drives anoikis resistance in circulating tumor cells by reprogramming fatty acid oxidation. Targeting this metabolic vulnerability suppresses metastasis, untangling a key mechanism of breast cancer progression and revealing NNMT as a promising therapeutic target.

Palmitic acid differently modulates extracellular vesicles and cellular fatty acid composition of SGBS adipocytes without impairing their insulin signaling

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
ScopeAdipocyte-derived extracellular vesicle (EV) lipid cargo reflects the obese metabolic state. Nevertheless, it is currently unknown whether the adipocyte-derived EV lipid profile is influenced by saturated fatty acid overload. This study investigated

Noggin depletion in adipocytes promotes obesity in mice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
ObjectiveObesity has increased to pandemic levels and enhanced understanding of adipose regulation is required for new treatment strategies. Although bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) influence adipogenesis, the effect of BMP antagonists such as Noggin ...

Cells Dynamically Adapt Their Nuclear Volumes and Proliferation Rates During Single to Multicellular Transitions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
It is currently not well understood how cells regulate basic properties, e.g., volume and mechanics within dense multicellular environments like tumors. Here, we show that different cell types of cancer and also normal cells largely decrease their nuclear and cellular volumes in emerging cell clusters and that this is partly driven by cell cycle shifts.

A high-cholesterol zebrafish diet promotes hypercholesterolemia and fasting-associated liver steatosis

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research
Zebrafish are an ideal model organism to study lipid metabolism and to elucidate the molecular underpinnings of human lipid-associated disorders. Unlike murine models, to which various standardized high lipid diets such as a high-cholesterol diet (HCD ...

The Role of Extracellular Vesicles MicroRNAs in Sarcopenia: From Aging to Multi‐Morbidity

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, EarlyView.
Exosomes transporting miRNAs play a crucial bidirectional regulatory role in the process of sarcopenia, both in natural aging and under various pathological conditions. ABSTRACT Sarcopenia, defined as progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, occurs during aging and has also been recognized for its detrimental effects in various disease ...

Pancreatic Atrophy: A Narrative Review and Surgical Interpretation

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Pancreatic parenchymal atrophy pattern and intraoperative margin assessment guide surgical strategy. ABSTRACT Despite recent advances in multimodal management, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains a fatal malignancy. Early detection of indirect findings of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is essential to improve treatment outcomes, drawing ...
