Innovations in Obesity Treatment: Beyond Adipose Tissue Dysfunction

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
Obesity drives chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cancer development through adipocyte dysfunction. Addressing this multisystemic disorder requires integrated strategies beyond diet and exercise, such as thermogenesis activation via menthol or capsinoids and appetite control through GLP‐1/GIP agonists and neuromodulation to ...

Setmelanotide in Bardet‐Biedl Syndrome: A Case Report

open access: yesPediatric Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Setmelanotide is a melanocortin‐4‐receptor agonist used for the treatment of hyperphagia in the genetic obesity syndrome Bardet‐Biedl. Presented is a case of diffuse hyperpigmentation in a patient treated with setmelanotide, which represents the most common side effect of this medication.

Role of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and systemic resveratrol on immediate implant placement in type 2 diabetic rats

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the combined effects of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and systemic resveratrol on bone repair around immediately placed implants in type 2 diabetic rats. Resveratrol improved glycemic control and body weight, while aPDT increased implant stability and bone mineralization.

Reviewing the benefits and clinical outcomes of oral fibroblasts over mesenchymal stem cells for repairing periodontal defects during or after orthodontic tooth movement

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Orthodontic therapy applies forces to teeth, causing an inflammatory reaction in the periodontal ligament. This is repaired by remodeling of the periodontium, allowing tooth displacement. Although orthodontic therapy is mostly initiated during childhood and adolescence, the number of adults seeking this treatment is increasing as our society's

Bone biology in aging periodontal and peri‐implant tissues

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Periodontal disease is an age‐related chronic inflammatory condition leading to tooth loss. Dental implants are an option for replacement of lost teeth in older adults. However, age‐related changes to alveolar bone may have pathological implications for its role in supporting the dentition and dental implants.

In vitro muscle contraction: A technical review on electrical pulse stimulation in C2C12 cells

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Electrical pulse stimulation (EPS) of skeletal muscle cells is increasingly used to model exercise In vitro. The murine C2C12 myotube system has become a common platform for such studies, yet wide variability in EPS protocols hampers reproducibility and cross‐study comparisons.

Circulating microRNA signatures reveal core and reversible dysregulation in obesity via machine learning

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Machine learning analysis of circulating microRNA (miRNA) profiles identified a minimal set of biomarkers that distinguish individuals with obesity from lean individuals both before and after weight‐loss intervention. Comparative analyses revealed heterogeneous molecular responses to weight reduction, with some miRNAs showing ...
