The effect of different natural additives on some quality parameters of fresh-cut Fuji apple is studied during 4 weeks of storage at 4°C. The results show that the calcium lactate maintains the texture and improves the structure of the fresh-cut apple during the storage. It strengthens the cell walls due to the formation of calcium pectates.

Abstract Estimating the genetic variation underpinning a trait is crucial to understanding and predicting its evolution. A key statistical tool to estimate this variation is the animal model. Typically, the environment is modelled as an external variable independent of the organism, affecting the focal phenotypic trait via phenotypic plasticity.

This study highlights the emergent properties associated with mixing two‐species, which result in resource efficient and temporally stable production systems. We reveal the negative impact of mean temperature on temporal stability of forest productivity and how the stabilizing effect of mixing two species can counterbalance this impact.

Workflow to develop an active film with LAB‐fermented whey for a novel application as a biopreservative of cheese. Fungal deterioration by Penicillium species in refrigerated storage conditions is one of the main risk factors for health issues and food waste in the dairy industry. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antifungal properties of a

Background – Because of the increased incidence of multidrug‐resistant (MDR) bacteria, the use of disinfectants over antibiotics has been encouraged. However, the interactions between disinfectants and host local immunity are poorly understood. Objective – To assess the effects of chlorhexidine digluconate (Chx), with and without selected host defence ...

A multispecies assessment of wildlife impacts on local community livelihoods
Abstract Conflicts between the interests of agriculture and wildlife conservation are a major threat to biodiversity and human well‐being globally. Addressing such conflicts requires a thorough understanding of the impacts associated with living alongside protected wildlife.
