ADOPTIVE CELL THERAPY: CURRENT ADVANCES

open access: yesЮжно-Российский онкологический журнал, 2020
The immune system plays an important role in the development and treatment of many cancer types. This fact determined the emergence of numerous immunotherapeutic approaches, including that of adoptive cell therapy (ACT).

Inhibiting TGF-beta signaling preserves the function of highly activated, in vitro expanded natural killer cells in AML and colon cancer models. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Natural killer cells harnessed from healthy individuals can be expanded ex vivo using various platforms to produce large doses for adoptive transfer into cancer patients.

Prevention of CpG-Induced Pregnancy Disruption by Adoptive Transfer of In Vitro-Induced Regulatory T Cells

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Objective To elucidate the mechanism by which embryo-resorption and preterm birth were enhanced by pathogenic CpG motif and to develop a counter strategy for normal pregnancy outcome. Methods This is an animal model-based study.

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Matrigel inhibits elongation and drives endoderm differentiation in aggregates of mouse embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.

Beyond the antigen receptor: editing the genome of T-cells for cancer adoptive cellular therapies

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2013
Recent early-stage clinical trials evaluating the adoptive transfer of patient CD8+ T-cells re-directed with antigen receptors recognising tumours have shown very encouraging results.

Should Alberta Adopt a Land Transfer Tax?

open access: yesThe School of Public Policy Publications, 2019
This paper provides background information that the public can use to assess the merits and consequences of introducing a land transfer tax in Alberta. Land transfer taxes are levied when real property is transferred from one owner to another. Five provincial governments levy land transfer taxes and in Ontario and British Columbia, they raise ...

Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Comparative assessment of autologous and allogeneic iNKT cell transfer in iNKT cell-based immunotherapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are a small subset of T lymphocytes that release large amounts of cytokines such as IFN-γ and exhibit cytotoxic activity upon activation, inducing strong anti-tumor effects.

Adoptive immunotherapy for cytomegalovirus infection

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2005
We reported a case with interstitial pneumonia associated with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in whom clinical improvement was observed after the treatment with primary adoptive immunotherapy.
