This review explores the integration of microfluidic technology with organoid systems as an innovative platform for studying menopausea complex multi‐organ condition. By enabling precise simulation of inter‐organ communication and hormone responses, microfluidic organoids offer a physiologically relevant model for investigating menopausal syndrome and ...

Breast carcinoma-amplified sequence 2 regulates adult neurogenesis via β-catenin
Background Breast carcinoma-amplified sequence 2 (BCAS2) regulates β-catenin gene splicing. The conditional knockout of BCAS2 expression in the forebrain (BCAS2 cKO) of mice confers impaired learning and memory along with decreased β-catenin expression ...

Radiation-induced lowered neurogenesis associated with shortened latency of inhibitory avoidance memory response [PDF]
The neural system is less sensitive to radiation than other late-responding organs and tissues such as the kidney and lung. The generation of new neurons in the adult mammalian brain has been documented in several works.

Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.

Waste Management and Adult Neurogenesis [PDF]
Dying cells are common in adult neurogenic niches, but how these cells are cleared remains uncertain. In this issue of Cell Stem Cell, Sierra et al. (2010) show that unactivated microglia assume the role of waste managers to eliminate cellular debris from apoptosing newborn cells in the hippocampus.

Paternal Circadian Disruption Impairs Offspring Cognition via Sperm microRNAs
Paternal circadian disruption remodels the sperm small RNA payload, elevating miR‐92a‐3p/miR‐25‐3p levels and perturbing early embryonic gene regulatory programs. Microinjection experiments and single‐embryo transcriptomics reveal sex‐specific developmental vulnerabilities, ultimately impairing offspring hippocampal synaptic plasticity and cognition ...

Developmental controls are re-expressed during induction of adult neurogenesis in the neocortex
Whether induction of low-level neurogenesis in normally non-neurogenic regions of the adult brain mimics aspects of developmental neurogenesis is currently unknown.

New neurons in old brains: implications of age in the analysis of neurogenesis in post-mortem tissue
Adult neurogenesis, the proliferation and integration of newly generated neurons, has been observed in the adult mammalian hippocampus of many species. Numerous studies have also found adult neurogenesis in the human hippocampus, but several recent high ...

Modelling hippocampal neurogenesis across the lifespan in seven species
The aim of this study was to estimate the number of new cells and neurons added to the dentate gyrus across the lifespan, and to compare the rate of age-associated decline in neurogenesis across species.
