Activity Based Anorexia as an Animal Model for Anorexia Nervosa–A Systematic Review [PDF]
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe eating disorder affecting around 1 per 100 persons. However, the knowledge about its underlying pathophysiology is limited.

FTO promotes weight gain via altering Kif1a splicing and axonal vesicle trafficking in AgRP neurons
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is an abundant chemical RNA modification involved in the regulation of many biological processes. The m6A demethylase FTO (fat mass and obesity-associated protein) is known to affect body weight, but its systemic context and ...

Time‐Restricted Feeding Alters Behavior in a Sex‐Specific Manner in Mice With Neuropathic Pain
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) alleviates anxiety‐like behavior in male mice with neuropathic pain (NP), but not in females. Upon nerve injury, TRF altered the diurnal expression of transcripts in the hypothalamus. These findings suggest that TRF should be explored as a new therapeutic approach to alleviate the comorbid anxiety in NP.

Appropriate Inhibition of Orexigenic Hypothalamic Arcuate Nucleus Neurons Independently of Leptin Receptor/STAT3 Signaling [PDF]
Leptin directly suppresses the activity of orexigenic neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC). We examined c-Fos-like immunoreactivity (CFLIR) as a marker of ARC neuronal activity in db/db mice devoid of the signaling form of the leptin ...

Liver ERα regulates AgRP neuronal activity in the arcuate nucleus of female mice
Recent work revealed the major role played by liver Estrogen Receptor α (ERα) in the regulation of metabolic and reproductive functions. By using mutant mice with liver-specific ablation of Erα, we here demonstrate that the hepatic ERα is essential for ...

Integration of Nutrient Sensing in Fish Hypothalamus
The knowledge regarding hypothalamic integration of metabolic and endocrine signaling resulting in regulation of food intake is scarce in fish. Available studies pointed to a network in which the activation of the nutrient-sensing (glucose, fatty acid ...

ABSTRACT Thyroid hormones (THs) are under negative feedback regulation via the hypothalamic–pituitary‐thyroid (HPT) axis. How this axis operates to keep the circulating THs within a narrow physiological range is not well understood quantitatively. Led by the design principle of robust homeostatic feedback control, here we review and synthesize the ...

Hedgehog Pathway Activation Alters Ciliary Signaling in Primary Hypothalamic Cultures [PDF]
Primary cilia dysfunction has been associated with hyperphagia and obesity in both ciliopathy patients and mouse models of cilia perturbation. Neurons throughout the brain possess these solitary cellular appendages, including in the feeding centers of ...

PDK1-FoxO1 pathway in AgRP neurons of arcuate nucleus promotes bone formation via GHRH-GH-IGF1 axis
Objective: In the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC), orexigenic agouti-related peptide (AgRP) neurons regulate feeding behavior and energy homeostasis, functions connected to bone metabolism.
