Long-Term Modeling of SARS-CoV-2 Infection of
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) replicates throughout human airways. The polarized human airway epithelium (HAE) cultured at an airway-liquid interface (HAE-ALI) is an in vitro model mimicking the in vivo human mucociliary ...

Deciphering Respiratory-Virus-Associated Interferon Signaling in COPD Airway Epithelium
COPD is a chronic lung disorder characterized by a progressive and irreversible airflow obstruction, and persistent pulmonary inflammation. It has become a global epidemic affecting 10% of the population, and is the third leading cause of death worldwide.

Inhaled Angiopoietin‐Like 4 Antisense Oligonucleotide Therapy for Lung Injury and Fibrosis
Inhaled antisense oligonucleotides targeting ANGPTL4 attenuate inflammation, preserve barrier integrity, and reduce fibrosis in both infectious and sterile lung injury models. Integrated transcriptomic analysis reveals a conserved ANGPTL4‐regulated gene network coordinating hypoxic, inflammatory, apoptotic, and stress‐response pathways.

Airway Epithelium Dysfunction in Cystic Fibrosis and COPD
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, whereas chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is mainly caused by environmental factors (mostly cigarette smoking) on a genetically susceptible background.

Recent studies have implicated keratin 5 (KRT5)+ cells in repopulation of damaged lung tissue following severe H1N1 influenza virus infection. However, the origins of the cells repopulating the injured alveolar region remain controversial.

The role of inflammation in airway epithelial cells and its regulation are important in several respiratory diseases. When disease is present, the barrier between the pulmonary circulation and the airway epithelium is damaged, allowing serum proteins to ...

Using single‐cell RNA sequencing of lung samples and flow cytometry of peripheral blood, we identified a novel T cell subset with high metallothionein (MT) expression. These MT‐high T cells suppress CD8+ T cell cytotoxicity and are progressively depleted from healthy controls to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, positioning them as

Phospholipase A2 (PLA2), a dormant enzyme, becomes lethal when activated—collapsing lungs in minutes. Our dual therapy (DOPS + varespladib) boosts survival from 0% to >90% in sepsis/ALI. A breakthrough for acute lung injury treatment. ABSTRACT This study reveals that phospholipase A2 (PLA2), normally stable and nontoxic, can be activated specifically ...

Gut microbiota–derived short‐chain fatty acids regulate group 3 innate lymphoid cells in HCC
Abstract Background and Aims Type 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) are essential for host defense against infection and tissue homeostasis. However, their role in the development of HCC has not been adequately confirmed. In this study, we investigated the immunomodulatory role of short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs) derived from intestinal microbiota in ILC3
