CTGF upregulation correlates with MMP-9 level in airway remodeling in a murine model of asthma

open access: yes, 2016
Introduction : Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) mediates hypertrophy, proliferation, and extracellular matrix synthesis. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) plays a role in airway extracellular matrix remodeling.

Cigarette Smoke‐Induced Alveolar Macrophage Senescence via GEM/SIRT3‐Mediated Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cigarette smoke accelerates the aging of immune cells in the lung. By combining human single‐cell sequencing, cell culture, and mouse models, the authors show that the protein GEM drives mitochondrial damage and senescence in alveolar macrophages by suppressing SIRT3.

Caveolin‐1 Stabilizes SERCA2 to Counteract Acute Kidney Injury via Suppression of Ca2+‐Dependent Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Distal Tubules

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In AKI, initial kidney injury upregulates the expression of Cav‐1, which subsequently binds to and stabilizes SERCA2 via its scaffolding domain and through deubiquitination, thereby regulating Ca2+ homeostasis and ER stress. Conversely, Cav‐1 deficiency accelerates SERCA2 degradation, triggering Ca2+ overload and ER stress, and ultimately exacerbating ...

Hedgehog Signaling as a Therapeutic Target for Airway Remodeling and Inflammation in Allergic Asthma

open access: yesCells, 2022
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have shown that variants of patched homolog 1 (PTCH1) are associated with lung function abnormalities in the general population.

Tissue remodelling in upper airways: where is the link with lower airway remodelling?

open access: yesAllergy, 2006
Tissue remodelling reported in upper airways include epithelial hyperplasia, increased matrix deposition in the nasal or paranasal lining, matrix degradation and accumulation of plasma proteins. Genetic influences, foetal exposures and early life events may contribute to structural changes such as subepithelial fibrosis from an early age.

Macrophage‐to‐Myofibroblast Transdifferentiation Contributes to Pulmonary Fibrosis via the MERTK‐SPP1‐SRC‐TKS5 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MERTK is upregulated in fibrotic macrophages and regulates the expression and activity of SRC and TKS5 through SPP1, mediating transdifferentiation of macrophages‐to‐myofibroblasts (MMT) and promoting pulmonary fibrosis. The figure was created with BioRender.com.

Pathology of asthma

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
Asthma is a serious health and socioeconomic issue all over the world, affecting more than 300 million individuals. The disease is considered as an inflammatory disease in the airway, leading to airway hyperresponsiveness, obstruction, mucus hyper ...

Epithelial SIRT6 governs IL-17A pathogenicity and drives allergic airway inflammation and remodeling

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Dysregulation of IL-17A is closely associated with airway inflammation and remodeling in severe asthma. However, the molecular mechanisms by which IL-17A is regulated remain unclear.

Noninvasive Characterization of Tumor Heterogeneity in HNSCC: From Clinical Utility to Biological Correlates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes a CT‐based radiomics framework to quantify intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) in HNSCC. Using unsupervised clustering, tumor ROIs and VOIs are analyzed to calculate 2D/3D ITH scores. The score shows strong predictive value for prognosis and immunotherapy response, and is associated with tumor metabolism and immune microenvironment,
