Screening for small molecule disruptors of AKAP-PKA interactions
Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are highly specific and diverse. Their selective inhibition with peptides, peptidomimetics, or small molecules allows determination of functions of individual PPIs.

Summary: Ca2+-permeable AMPA-type glutamate receptors (CP-AMPARs) containing GluA1 but lacking GluA2 subunits contribute to multiple forms of synaptic plasticity, including long-term potentiation (LTP), but mechanisms regulating CP-AMPARs are poorly ...

Synaptic plasticity is a fundamental property of the nervous system that underpins learning, memory, and adaptive behavior across the lifespan. Disruption of plasticity mechanisms is increasingly recognized as a unifying feature of age‐related neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders.

AKAPs integrate genetic findings for autism spectrum disorders [PDF]
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are highly heritable, and six genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of ASDs have been published to date. In this study, we have integrated the findings from these GWASs with other genetic data to identify enriched genetic networks that are associated with ASDs.

Sperm protein 17 is expressed in the sperm fibrous sheath
Background Sperm protein 17 (Sp17) is a highly conserved mammalian protein characterized in rabbit, mouse, monkey, baboon, macaque, human testis and spermatozoa. mRNA encoding Sp17 has been detected in a range of murine and human somatic tissues.

Conserved Functions of LARP1 Proteins in Eukaryotes
LARP1 proteins are evolutionary conserved, and their function is influenced by both independent and coordinated roles of the La Motif and DM15 region, with a net effect on mRNA translation and stability. ABSTRACT La and La‐related proteins (LARPs) are conserved RNA‐binding proteins that share a characteristic La motif (LaM) and have important functions

Mitochondrial Homeostasis and Signaling in Parkinson’s Disease
The loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra leads to a progressive, long-term decline of movement and other non-motor deficits. The symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD) often appear later in the course of the disease, when most of the ...

Neurobeachin (NBEA) is a novel gene associated with GLP‐1 receptor agonist associated weight loss
Abstract Aims Nearly 42% of adults in the United States have obesity, a significant risk factor for many cardiometabolic diseases and cancers. Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RAs) are promising interventions for weight loss, but their efficacy varies significantly across individuals.

AKAP-Lbc mobilizes a cardiac hypertrophy signaling pathway.
Elevated catecholamines in the heart evoke transcriptional activation of the Myocyte Enhancer Factor (MEF) pathway to induce a cellular response known as pathological myocardial hypertrophy.
