Interaction of akirin and pannier during embryogenesis of Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yes, 2022
Akirin, a highly conserved protein found in nearly all eukaryote species, is a transcriptional cofactor that has been known to play a critical role in the muscular development in Drosophila.

Subolesin vaccination inhibits blood feeding and reproduction of Haemaphysalis longicornis in rabbits

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2020
Background Ticks can transmit numerous tick-borne pathogens and cause a huge economic loss to the livestock industry. Tick vaccines can contribute to the prevention of tick-borne diseases by inhibiting tick infestation or reproduction.

Tick subolesin is an ortholog of the akirins described in insects and vertebrates

open access: yesDevelopmental & Comparative Immunology, 2009
The tick protective antigen, subolesin, is a regulatory protein involved in the control of multiple cellular pathways. Subolesin is evolutionary conserved in invertebrates and vertebrates with sequence homology to akirins, a recently renamed group of proteins that were proposed to function as transcription factors in Drosophila and mice.

miR‐181c‐5p Exacerbates Hypoxia/Reoxygenation‐Induced Cardiomyocyte Apoptosis via Targeting PTPN4

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Background. Activation of cell apoptosis is a major form of cell death during myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (I/RI). Therefore, examining ways to control cell apoptosis has important clinical significance for improving postischemic recovery.

A Review of the Genetics and Pathogenesis of Syndactyly in Humans and Experimental Animals: A 3‐Step Pathway of Pathogenesis

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Embryology of normal web space creation and the genetics of syndactyly in humans and experimental animals are well described in the literature. In this review, the author offers a 3‐step pathway of pathogenesis for syndactyly. The first step is initiated either by the overactivation of the WNT canonical pathway or the suppression of the Bone ...

Gene Expression Profiling in Behcet’s Disease Indicates an Autoimmune Component in the Pathogenesis of the Disease and Opens New Avenues for Targeted Therapy

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Behçet disease (BD) is a chronic inflammatory multisystem disease characterized by oral and genital ulcers, uveitis, and skin lesions. Disease etiopathogenesis is still unclear. We aim to elucidate some aspects of BD pathogenesis and to identify specific gene signatures in peripheral blood cells (PBCs) of patients with active disease using novel gene ...

In Silico Characterization and Structural Modeling of Dermacentor andersoni p36 Immunosuppressive Protein

open access: yesAdvances in Bioinformatics, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Ticks cause approximately $17–19 billion economic losses to the livestock industry globally. Development of recombinant antitick vaccine is greatly hindered by insufficient knowledge and understanding of proteins expressed by ticks. Ticks secrete immunosuppressant proteins that modulate the host’s immune system during blood feeding; these molecules ...

Analysis of the Role of Akirin Interactions with Nuclear Body Proteins During Myogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Akirin is a highly conserved, small nuclear protein of indeterminate structure ubiquitously expressed in non-fungal eukaryotic species. It was first discovered in the innate immune response, but many other functions have since been found, including ...

Ubiquitin signalling in Drosophila innate immune responses

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 291, Issue 20, Page 4397-4413, October 2024.
Drosophila innate immunity against bacterial infection relies on humoral responses regulated by the Imd and Toll pathways activating NF‐κB transcription factors, as well as JNK activation and JAK/STAT signalling. These pathways are characterised by E3 ligases and deubiquitinating enzymes that determine ubiquitination of signalling molecules followed by

The use of cell and larval assays to identify target genes for RNA interference‐meditated control of the Australian sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 9, Page 4686-4698, September 2024.
Two research models for Lucilia cuprina targets screening were established. The results contribute to the development of sustainable RNAi mediated bio‐control strategies for this agricultural pest. Abstract BACKGROUND Flystrike, primarily caused by Lucilia cuprina, is a major health and welfare issue for sheep wool industries.
