Human serum albumin homeostasis: a new look at the roles of synthesis, catabolism, renal and gastrointestinal excretion, and the clinical value of serum albumin measurements

open access: yesInternational Journal of General Medicine, 2016
Serum albumin concentration (CP) is a remarkably strong prognostic indicator of morbidity and mortality in both sick and seemingly healthy subjects. Surprisingly, the specifics of the pathophysiology underlying the relationship between CP and ill-health ...

Analysis of Salivary Protein Profiles and its Viscosity in Early Childhood Caries (A Cross-Sectional Study) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2018
Introduction: Early Childhood Caries (ECC) affects a significant proportion of the child population worldwide. Salivary proteins contain a host defense system that plays a role in the caries pathogenesis.

Doping Human Serum Albumin with Retinoate Markedly Enhances Electron Transport Across the Protein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Electrons can migrate via proteins over distances that are considered long for non-conjugated systems. Proteins' nano-scale dimensions and the enormous flexibility of their structures and chemistry makes them fascinating subjects for investigating the mechanism of their electron transport (ETp) capacity.

Slow and remanent electric polarization of adsorbed BSA layer evidenced by neutron reflection [PDF]

open access: yesSoft Matter, 2012,8, 2638-2643, 2011
Using neutron reflectivity together with an appropriate electrochemical cell, we have studied the effects of transverse electric field on the Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) monolayer initially adsorbed at the interface of the aqueous solution and a conductive doped-silicon wafer. Depending on the sign of the initial potential, a second layer is adsorbed on

Strategies for Preparing Albumin-based Nanoparticles for Multifunctional Bioimaging and Drug Delivery

open access: yesTheranostics, 2017
Biosafety is the primary concern in clinical translation of nanomedicine. As an intrinsic ingredient of human blood without immunogenicity and encouraged by its successful clinical application in Abraxane, albumin has been regarded as a promising ...

Uric Acid and Coronary Artery Disease, Two Sides of a Single Coin: A Determinant of Antioxidant System or a Factor in Metabolic Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2016
Introduction: Uric acid has antioxidant activity and it is expected to protect against coronary artery disease (CAD). Contradictory, it is a component of metabolic syndrome and so a risk factor for CAD.

Feasibility of an Acoustophoresis-based System for a High-Throughput Cell Washing: Application to Bioproduction [PDF]

open access: yesCytotherapy, 2023, 25 (8), pp.891-899, 2023
Background These last decades have seen the emergence and development of cell-based therapies, notably those based on mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). The advancement of these promising treatments requires increasing the throughput of processed cell for industrialization in order to reduce production costs.

The C-Reactive Protein/Albumin Ratio as a Predictor of Mortality in Critically Ill Patients

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2018
The C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratio has recently emerged as a marker for poor prognosis or mortality across various patient groups. This study aimed to identify the association between CRP/albumin ratio and 28-day mortality and predict the ...

Interaction of Tannin with Bovine Serum Albumin by Fluorescence Spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Interaction between tannin and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was examined by the fluorescent quenching. The process of elimination between BSA and tannin was the one of a stationary state, and the coupling coefficient was one. The working strength between the tannin and the beef serum was hydrophobic one.
