DNA demethylase ALKBH1 promotes adipogenic differentiation via regulation of HIF-1 signaling [PDF]
DNA N6-adenine methylation (6mA), as a novel adenine modification existing in eukaryotes, shows essential functions in embryogenesis and mitochondrial transcriptions. ALKBH1 is a demethylase of 6mA and plays critical roles in osteogenesis, tumorigenesis, and adaptation to stress.

DNA N6-methyladenine (6mA) is an epigenetic modification that regulates various biological processes. Here, we show that gastric cancer (GC) cells and tumors display a marked reduction in 6mA levels compared with normal gastric tissues and cells. 6mA is abundant in the surrounding transcription start sites and occurs at consensus motifs.

MiRNA-339-5p suppresses the malignant development of gastric cancer via targeting ALKBH1
To uncover the role of microRNA-339-5p (miRNA-339-5p) in the development of gastric cancer (GC) and its possible molecular mechanism.Differential expressions of miRNA-339-5p in GC and adjacent normal tissues were detected. The relationship between miRNA-339-5p level and clinical features in GC patients was analyzed.

ALKBH1 promotes HIF-1α-mediated glycolysis by inhibiting N-glycosylation of LAMP2A
AbstractALKBH1 is a typical demethylase of nucleic acids, which is correlated with multiple types of biological processes and human diseases. Recent studies are focused on the demethylation of ALKBH1, but little is known about its non-demethylase function.

MORC–ALKBH1 antagonism shapes three‐dimensional gene regulation in rice
Journal of Integrative Plant BiologyThis commentary highlights how antagonistic actions between MORC proteins and the DNA demethylase ALKBH1 shape three-dimensional chromatin organization in rice. By balancing gene silencing and activation at stress-responsive loci, this mechanism provides insights into chromatin regulation and offers potential applications for developing stress ...

Discovery of a Potent and Cell-Active Inhibitor of DNA 6mA Demethylase ALKBH1
Journal of the American Chemical SocietyN6-Methyladenine (6mA) of DNA has emerged as a novel epigenetic mark in eukaryotes, and several 6mA effector proteins have been identified. However, efforts to selectively inhibit the biological functions of these effector proteins with small molecules are unsuccessful to date. Here we report the first potent and selective small molecule inhibitor (13h)

Elucidating the Role of ALKBH1 in Arsenic-Induced Skin Tumorigenesis
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S and is commonly driven by exposure to environmental factors. A major environmental risk factor for skin cancer development is through chronic arsenic exposure. Arsenic is a metalloid that is found naturally within the Earth's crust.openaire +1 more source
