Phytochemical Analysis and hypoglycemic potential of Filago hurdwarica (Wall. ex DC.) Wagenitz in alloxan induced diabetic mice

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2022
Plants have profound therapeutic benefits, more economical treatments, fewer side effects, and a relatively cheap cost, making them a source of drugs for protective, preventative, curative, or conducive purposes and creating novel phytomedicines.

Alloxan Diabetes in the Piglet [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1957
LUKENS1 depancreatized young pigs, and found that the diabetic state which followed was characterized by a slight or absent fasting glucose-excretion, and a low fasting nitrogen-excretion. Ketonuria was marked, but was not accompanied by severe acidosis.

Ameliorative Effects of Annona muricata Leaf Ethanol Extract on Renal Morphology of Alloxan-Induced Mice

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, which affects multiple tissues including kidneys. Soursop leaves (Annona muricata) are known to have antidiabetic potential, but their molecular and cellular effects ...

Alloxan-induced diabetes, a common model for evaluating the glycemic-control potential of therapeutic compounds and plants extracts in experimental studies

open access: yesMedicina, 2017
Glycemic homeostasis refers to glucose balance or control within circulation in living organisms. It is normally and largely compromised in diabetes. The compromise when exacerbated, leads to several complications including retinopathy, nephropathy and ...

Osmotic concentration of urine in the dynamics of the development of alloxan-induced experimental diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2022
In order to clarify the peculiarities of the osmotic concentration of urine in the dynamics of the development of alloxan-induced experimental diabetes mellitus (DDM), studies were conducted on 54 sexually mature non-linear male white rats, in which DDM

HEMOLYSIS WITH ALLOXAN AND ALLOXAN-LIKE COMPOUNDS, AND THE PROTECTIVE ACTION OF TOCOPHEROL [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1950
Abstract The production of hemolysis in tocopherol-deficient rats by injection of compounds related to alloxan has been studied. Alloxantin had the same hemolytic action as alloxan; dialuric acid was about twice, ninhydrin about six times as effective as alloxan. Alloxanic acid had no hemolytic action.

Strategies for inducing diabetes in laboratory animals: Advances from chemical, surgical, immunologic, dietary, and genetic approaches

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the principal experimental approaches used to induce diabetes in animal models. Strategies include chemical agents (streptozotocin, alloxan, dithizone, gold thioglucose), dietary interventions (high‐fat and high‐sugar diets), surgical methods (total or partial pancreatectomy), genetic models (db/db, ob/ob, Goto‐Kakizaki [GK ...

A New Vista of Opportunity in Diabetes Management: Natural Product‐Based β‐cell Preservation

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Preserving functional β‐cells via natural products offers promising strategy for diabetes treatment. ABSTRACT A defining characteristic of diabetes is β‐cell failure, in which β‐cells cannot modulate insulin secretion to compensate for escalating insulin resistance, pushing forward disease development.

MECHANISMS OF ACTION OF THE POWDER OF CURCUMA LONGA RHIZOME PLANT ON A CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM AT ALLOXAN-INDUCED DIABETIC RATS

open access: yesБюллетень сибирской медицины, 2014
Aim. The effects of the powder of Curcuma longa plant rhizome as food additive on different processes of carbohydrate metabolism: glucose concentration in whole blood, concentration of hormones – insulin and C-peptide in plasma, content of glycogen in ...

Safety Assessment and Hypoglycemic Effect of Moringa oleifera Lam. Seed Lectin (WSMoL) in Alloxan‐Induced Diabetic Mice

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Moringa oleifera Lam. seeds contain WSMoL, a lectin previously studied for toxicity and pharmacological effects. In this study, we investigated WSMoL (10, 25, or 50 mg/kg i.p.) for acute and 14‐day repeated‐dose toxicity, as well as genotoxicity, in Swiss mice.
