Prognostic roles of pathology markers immunoexpression and clinical parameters in Hepatoblastoma
Background Hepatoblastoma, a leading primary hepatic malignant tumor in children, is originated from primitive hepatic stem cells. We aimed to elucidate the relationships between the histological distribution of β-catenin and hepatic stem cell markers ...

Molecular Cloning of an Alternative Human αE-Catenin cDNA [PDF]
The cytoplasmic protein alpha-catenin plays a crucial role in E-cadherin mediated cell-cell adhesion by binding E-cadherin to the cytoskeleton via beta- or gamma-catenin and actin. Functional loss of one of these interacting components leads to decreased cell-cell adhesion, and therefore to loss of epithelial integrity.

Expression of the E-cadherin-catenin complex in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
Cadherins and catenins, mediators of intercellular interactions, play a major role in adhesion. Changes in their expression and functioning reflect invasive and metastatic properties of cancer cells.

Protective role of the alpha-1-antitrypsin in intervertebral disc degeneration
Background Intervertebral disc degeneration is a complex disease with high prevalence. It suggests that cell death, senescence, and extracellular matrix degradation are involved in the pathogenesis. Alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT), a serine protease inhibitor,

Alpha-Catenins Control Cardiomyocyte Proliferation by Regulating Yap Activity [PDF]
Rationale: Shortly after birth, muscle cells of the mammalian heart lose their ability to divide. Thus, they are unable to effectively replace dying cells in the injured heart. The recent discovery that the transcriptional coactivator Yes-associated protein (Yap) is necessary and sufficient for ...

Aim. In our present work, we have addressed to the γ-catenin, known main component of desmosomes, expression in hearts with heterozygous and homozygous knockout of α-E-catenin gene. Methods. Alpha-E-catenin conditional knockout mice were bred with α-MHC-

Epstein-Barr virus associated modulation of Wnt pathway is not dependent on latent membrane protein-1. [PDF]
Previous studies have indicated that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) can modulate the Wnt pathway in virus-infected cells and this effect is mediated by EBV-encoded oncogene latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1).

Identification of the Domain of α-Catenin Involved in Its Association with β-Catenin and Plakoglobin (γ-Catenin) [PDF]
alpha-Catenin is a 102-kDa protein exhibiting homology to vincuin, and it forms complexes with cadherins or the tumor-suppressor gene product adenomatous polyposis coli through binding to beta-catenin or plakoglobin (gamma-catenin). The incorporation of alpha-catenin into the cadherin-catenin complexes is a prerequisite for expression of the cell ...
