Alpha lipoic acid in obstetrics and gynecology
Alpha-Lipoic acid (ALA) is a natural antioxidant synthetized by plants and animals, identified as a catalytic agent for oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate and α-ketoglutarate. In this review, we analyzed the action of ALA in gynecology and obstetrics focusing in particular on neuropathic pain and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action.

Dihydro-alpha-lipoic acid has more potent cytotoxicity than alpha-lipoic acid
Alpha-lipoic acid has been shown to possess cancer-cell-killing activity via activation of the apoptosis pathway. In this study, the cytotoxic activities of alpha-lipoic and dihydro-alpha-lipoic acid were compared in HL-60 cells. The cell-killing activity of dihydro-alpha-lipoic acid was higher than that of alpha-lipoic acid.

Alpha lipoic acid for dementia
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2002Oxidative processes have been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative dementias including Alzheimer's disease. Protecting the central nervous system against these damaging mechanisms may be a useful therapeutic approach. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is an endogenous antioxidant that interrupts cellular oxidative processes in both its oxidized ...

Alpha lipoic acid intoxicatıon: An adult
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2018Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant used to treat a variety of disorders. Although ALA is considered a very safe supplement and intoxication is very rare, acute high-dose ingestions can cause mortality. In this report, we discuss a very rare case of ALA intoxication to increase awareness of this issue.A 22-year-old female was referred to ...

Alpha-lipoic acid as a biological antioxidant
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1995alpha-Lipoic acid, which plays an essential role in mitochondrial dehydrogenase reactions, has recently gained considerable attention as an antioxidant. Lipoate, or its reduced form, dihydrolipoate, reacts with reactive oxygen species such as superoxide radicals, hydroxyl radicals, hypochlorous acid, peroxyl radicals, and singlet oxygen.

ALSUntangled #79: alpha-lipoic acid
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal DegenerationAlpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a naturally occurring fatty acid. It serves as an essential cofactor for enzymatic reactions in mitochondrial energy production, is a potent antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory effects, which are plausible mechanisms in slowing ALS progression.
