5-methylcytosine promotes mRNA export — NSUN2 as the methyltransferase and ALYREF as an m5C reader [PDF]
5-methylcytosine (m5C) is a post-transcriptional RNA modification identified in both stable and highly abundant tRNAs and rRNAs, and in mRNAs. However, its regulatory role in mRNA metabolism is still largely unknown. Here, we reveal that m5C modification is enriched in CG-rich regions and in regions immediately downstream of translation initiation sites

ALYREF/THOC4 expression and cell growth modulation in retinoblastoma
In this study, we tested the hypothesis that ALYREF/THOC4, a poor prognostic factor in different cancer types, has potential as a drug target and prognostic biomarker for retinoblastoma (RB). Immunostaining (IHC), Western blot, and RT-qPCR analyses detected overexpression of ALYREF in the RB cell lines Y79, RB143, WERI-RB1, and RB116.

ALYREF mainly binds to the 5′ and the 3′ regions of the mRNA in vivo [PDF]
The TREX complex (TREX) plays key roles in nuclear export of mRNAs. However, little is known about its transcriptome-wide binding targets. We used individual cross-linking and immunoprecipitation (iCLIP) to identify the binding sites of ALYREF, an mRNA export adaptor in TREX, in human cells.

Neuroblastoma is a tumour of the sympathetic nervous system mainly prevalent in children. Many strategies have been employed to target several drug-targetable proteins for the clinical management of neuroblastoma. However, the heterogeneous nature of neuroblastoma presents serious challenges in drug development for its treatment.

5-Methylcytosine (m5C) methylation is present in almost all types of RNA as an essential epigenetic modification. It is dynamically modulated by its associated enzymes, including m5C methyltransferases (NSUN, DNMT and TRDMT family members), demethylases (TET family and ALKBH1) and binding proteins (YTHDF2, ALYREF and YBX1).
