Mesoporous immunosensor applied to zearalenone determination in Amaranthus cruentus seeds [PDF]

open access: yesMicrochemical Journal, 2018
Abstract We describe an electrochemical immunosensor for zearalenone (ZEA) determination in Amaranthus cruentus seeds by an enzyme immunoassay sandwich type. The device is based on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified with amino mesoporous silica (MCM-41) synthetized with Fe2O3 in situ.

Going New Places: Successful Adaptation and Genomic Integrity of Grain Amaranth in India

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 18, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Global climate change will impact the geographic distribution of plant populations. The rapid changes will require range shifts and the adaptation of plants. The recent global spread of crops across different continents shows how plants successfully coped with drastically different environments.

Allelopathic effects of Amaranthus retroflexus and Amaranthus cruentus extracts on germination of garden cress.

open access: yesAFRICAN JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURAL RESEEARCH, 2012
The objective of the present study was to analyze and compare the allelopathic activities of weedy and grain amaranths. For this purpose, the seeds of garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.) were germinated on filter paper moistened with aqueous extracts of Amaranthus retroflexus L. and Amaranthus cruentus L. cv. ‘G6’.

Lessons from a student‐led breeding effort on leafy African vegetables in Minnesota

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 65, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
Abstract The Community Plant Breeding Team, a student‐led plant breeding initiative at the University of Minnesota, was initiated in 2021 in direct response to the local demand for culturally relevant food. We focus on improving access to African leafy vegetables, which are in high demand but face challenges such as poor adaptation to the Minnesota ...
