Site-Directed Mutagenesis and Site-Specific Binding Analysis of Calmodulin (CaM) [PDF]
Calcium signaling is a major regulatory system in cells and a crucial part of cell biology. An important element in the decoding of intracellular calcium concentration into downstream processes is the ubiquitous and highly conserved calcium binding ...

Can Power Laws Help Us Understand Gene and Proteome Information?
Proteins are biochemical entities consisting of one or more blocks typically folded in a 3D pattern. Each block (a polypeptide) is a single linear sequence of amino acids that are biochemically bonded together.

OLGA: fast computation of generation probabilities of B- and T-cell receptor amino acid sequences and motifs [PDF]
Motivation High-throughput sequencing of large immune repertoires has enabled the development of methods to predict the probability of generation by V(D)J recombination of T- and B-cell receptors of any specific nucleotide sequence.

Aminopeptidase C of Aspergillus niger is a Novel Phenylalanine Aminopeptidase [PDF]
A novel enzyme with a specific phenylalanine aminopeptidase activity (ApsC) from Aspergillus niger (CBS 120.49) has been characterized. The derived amino acid sequence is not similar to any previously characterized aminopeptidase sequence but does share ...

Three classes of tetrahydrobiopterin-dependent enzymes
Current knowledge distinguishes three classes of tetrahydrobiopterin-dependent enzymes as based on protein sequence similarity. These three protein sequence clusters hydroxylate three types of substrate atoms and use three different forms of iron for ...

Word decoding of protein amino Acid sequences with availability analysis: a linguistic approach.
The amino acid sequences of proteins determine their three-dimensional structures and functions. However, how sequence information is related to structures and functions is still enigmatic.

The signature motif of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae Pif1 DNA helicase is essential in vivo for mitochondrial and nuclear functions and in vitro for ATPase activity [PDF]
Pif1 family DNA helicases are conserved from bacteria to humans and have critical and diverse functions in vivo that promote genome integrity. Pif1 family helicases share a 23 amino acid region, called the Pif1 signature motif (SM) that is unique to this

Simple models of protein folding and of non--conventional drug design [PDF]
While all the information required for the folding of a protein is contained in its amino acid sequence, one has not yet learned how to extract this information to predict the three--dimensional, biologically active, native conformation of a protein ...

The amino acid sequence of Scenedesmus ferredoxin
The complete amino acid sequence of ferredoxin isolated from a green alga, Scenedesmus species, was determined by analyses of tryptic and chymotryptic digests, and cyanogen bromide cleavage of the S-carboxymethylcysteinylferredoxin. The total number of amino acid residues is 96, one less than for the higher plant ferredoxins.
