Amino sugar metabolism in erythrocytes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1968
Abstract The ability of rabbit erythrocytes to synthesize glucosamine and convert it to UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc) has been measured in mature erythrocytes, in reticulocytes, and in the immature bone marrow erythroid cells. The cells were incubated with either [14C]fructose which can be converted via fructose 6-phosphate (Fru-6-P) to ...

Fluorometric analysis of amino sugars and derivatized neutral sugars

Analytical Biochemistry, 1982
Abstract A rapid and sensitive procedure for the analysis of neutral and amino sugars is presented. Neutral sugars are separated after conversion to the corresponding glycamines, while the amino sugars are analyzed without modification, using an automatic amino acid analyzer and fluorometric detection.

Cell-Wall Amino-Acids and Amino-Sugars

Nature, 1957
STUDIES of the chemistry of cell walls of many Gram-positive bacteria have established that they possess distinctive properties; indeed, a number of the uncommon constituents of bacterial cells have been found to be localized in the walls, for example, αɛ-diaminopimelic acid, D-isomers of amino-acids, and the sugars D-arabinose and rhamnose1–3.

Heterocyclic amino sugar derivatives

Carbohydrate Research, 1973
Abstract Benzyl 2-deoxy-α- d -gulopyranosido[2,3:4′,5′]-2′-oxazolidinone ( 10 ) was synthesized from benzyl 3- O -acetyl-2-[(benzyloxycarbonyl)amino]-2-deoxy-α- d -glucopyranoside ( 1 ) via the 4- O -methylsulfonyl-6- O -trityl derivative and 3,4-anhydro-α- d -galactopyranoside derivatives.

Determination of Amino Sugars

1979
Free amino sugars react with acetylacetone in alkaline solution and form a pink-colored complex with p-dimenthylaminobenzaldehyde. This reaction was used for the quantitative determination of amino sugars by Morgan and co-workers. Bound amino sugars, as present in some natural products, must be liberated first by hydrolysis, as described in Exercises ...
