Controlled disassembly of peptide amphiphile fibres

open access: yesJournal of Peptide Science, 2007
AbstractIn this paper, the introduction of both a methionine residue and a nitrobenzyl derivative as a labile linker between the peptide part and the hydrophobic alkyl chain of a peptide amphiphile are presented. These modifications are shown not to inhibit the formation of structured assemblies that analogous peptide amphiphiles lacking the linkers ...

Adenosine triphosphate as a modulator of protein interactions and stability

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ATP is best known as the cell's energy currency, but it also shapes how proteins fold, interact, aggregate and form biomolecular condensates. This review explains the emerging physical principles behind these effects, including weak binding to charged protein regions, magnesium‐dependent behaviour and concentration‐dependent control of protein ...

Cytotoxic effects of branched cationic peptides derived from bovine lactoferricin on oral squamous cell carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of Drug Science
Aim: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one of the most common types of cancer affecting the oral cavity and the upper aerodigestive tract. In many cases, misdiagnosis leads to the progression of the disease to life-threatening stages, highlighting the ...

Fluorination: A strategy to tune the interactions of molecules and nanoscale systems with biological matter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This minireview explores fluorination as a key strategy to optimize therapeutic molecules and nanocarriers. By incorporating different fluorinated motifs—from single atoms to linear and branched chains—drug delivery, cellular uptake, and colloidal stability can be improved and fine‐tuned.

Programming Nanoscale Reaction Environments via Peptide Localization for Gold Nanoparticle Growth in Liposomal Nanoreactors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The liposome nanoreactor method enables uniform metal nanoparticle synthesis using the interior as a reaction environment. We demonstrate that peptide sequences and lipid compositions act as a functional molecular switch to control reaction environments in liposome nanoreactors.

Amphiphilic nanoassemblies for the detection of peptides and proteins using fluorescence and mass spectrometry

open access: yes, 2009
Amphiphilic nanostructures provide unique environments for molecules that are incompatible with the solvent to be sequestered within their interior. These internal environments provide opportunities for concentrating an analyte or transducer molecule for

ATP‐Mediated Bidirectional Communication Between Natural and Artificial Cells for Controlled Bioreactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Establishment of bidirectional communication behavior between natural and artificial cells. The first type of communication from natural dendritic cells to artificial polymeric cells was achieved via ATP release after cell lysis. The released ATP was taken up via gated UV‐controlled permeability increase of the polymeric membrane for performing ...

De Novo Design, Synthesis, and Characterization of Antimicrobial β-Peptides

open access: yes, 2016
β-Peptides are a class of polyamides that have been demonstrated to adopt a variety of helical conformations. Recently, a series of amphiphilic L+2 helical β-peptides were designed, which were intended to mimic the overall physicochemical properties of a
