Angioedema

open access: yesAllergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology
Abstract Angioedema can occur in the absence of urticaria and can be broadly divided into three main categories: mast cell-mediated (e.g., histamine), non-mast-cell-mediated (bradykinin-induced) and idiopathic angioedema. Non-mast-cell-mediated angioedema is largely driven by bradykinin.

Anesthesia in a patient with hereditary angioedema [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic disease caused by an autosomal dominant mutation that results in an alteration of the gene encoding the activated C1 esterase inhibitor protein (C1-INH), causing deficiency or dysfunction of C1-INH.

Disease Remission: A Scoping Review With Thematic Analysis of the Scientific Literature With Implications for Chronic Rhinosinusitis

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Remission, a term used to describe a goal of treatment for some chronic diseases, has recently been proposed for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). However, it is unclear what remission means for CRS and why it should serve as a goal in the present‐day treatment of CRS.

Interleukin‐5, Eosinophils, and Interleukin‐5 Pathway Inhibitors in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Interlukin‐5 (IL‐5) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) by promoting eosinophil differentiation, activation, and survival. We present here a typical case of EGPA in which treatment with IL‐5 pathway inhibitors is prescribed, showing to be beneficial for the patient.

Intravenous lanadelumab for the treatment of moderately ill COVID‐19 patients

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Kallikrein‐kinin system (KKS) dysregulation is hypothesized to play a pathogenetic role in COVID‐19‐associated pulmonary oedema. To investigate the efficacy and safety of intravenous lanadelumab, a monoclonal antibody that inhibits plasma kallikrein, in COVID‐19, we conducted a phase 2, open‐label, randomized‐controlled, proof‐of‐concept ...

Angioedema

open access: yesWorld Allergy Organization Journal, 1984
Angioedema can be caused by either mast cell degranulation or activation of the kallikrein-kinin cascade. In the former case, angioedema can be caused by allergic reactions caused by immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated hypersensitivity to foods or drugs that can also result in acute urticaria or a more generalized anaphylactic reaction.

Analysis of interstitial lung disease in pharmacovigilance databases: Coding challenges and interpretation biases—An update

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim Clinically, interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a heterogeneous group of respiratory disorders. Due to their low incidence, pharmacovigilance database analysis is useful to detect them. Precise diagnosis is challenging as well as coding in these databases. Query criteria are among the key elements for a good signal detection.
