Metabolic Consequences of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may have metabolic disruption, which can contribute to adverse long‐term outcomes, for multiple reasons. Patients with RA appear to have a higher risk of sarcopenia, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. Systemic inflammation in RA can cause a “lipid paradox,” with reduced low‐

Mathematical model of SARS-Cov-2 propagation versus ACE2 fits COVID-19 lethality across age and sex and predicts that of SARS, supporting possible therapy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The fatality rate of Covid-19 escalates with age and is larger in men than women. I show that these variations correlate strongly with the level of the viral receptor protein ACE2 in rat lungs, which is consistent with the still limited and apparently contradictory data on human ACE2.

Murine Models and Human Cell Line Models to Study Altered Dynamics of Ovarian Follicles in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The manuscript examines preclinical murine and human models to study polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), delving into the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying altered ovarian follicular dynamics. It explores the cellular interactions involved in normal and PCOS ovaries and outlines the current and novel strategies in the search for preclinical ...

Bioengineering Strategies for Treating Neointimal Hyperplasia in Peripheral Vasculature: Innovations and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
This review highlights emerging bioengineering strategies for treating neointimal hyperplasia in the peripheral vasculature, focusing on approaches that promote re‐endothelialization, modulate smooth muscle cell phenotype, reduce inflammation, mitigate oxidative stress, and optimize biomechanical compliance.

In silico ADMET and molecular docking study on searching potential inhibitors from limonoids and triterpenoids for COVID-19 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Virtual screening of phytochemicals was performed through molecular docking, simulation, in silico ADMET and drug-likeness prediction to identify the potential hits that can inhibit the effects of SARS-CoV-2. Considering the published literature on medicinal importance, total 154 phytochemicals with analogous structure from limonoids and triterpenoids ...

Angiotensin II as an Inducer of Atherosclerosis: Evidence from Mouse Studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mechanisms responsible for atherosclerotic plaque development, destabilization, and rupture are still largely unknown. Angiotensin II, the main bioactive peptide of renin angiotensin system, has been shown to be critically involved in the pathogenesis of

Direct Surface Modification of the Epidermis Using Mussel‐Inspired Polydopamine with Multiple Anti‐Biofouling Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface modification using mussel‐derived polydopamine (PDA) is a versatile and robust biocompatible strategy that enables direct application to various epidermal surfaces, regardless of their morphological complexity or surface characteristics. The PDA‐coated epidermis exhibits multiple anti‐biofouling functionalities, including antibacterial and anti‐

Angiotensin II treatment is associated with improved oxygenation in ARDS patients with refractory vasodilatory shock

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care, 2023
Background The physiological effects of renin-angiotensin system modulation in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remain controversial and have not been investigated in randomized trials. We sought to determine whether angiotensin-II treatment is
