The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Spray Dried Animal Plasma as an Alternative to Antibiotics in Weanling Pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Piglet health at weaning is compromised due to several stress factors. Following the ban of antibiotic growth promoters new alternatives are required to control these problems. This paper reviews the evidence available for the use of spray dried animal

Probing the physicochemical and sensorial properties of pasteurized milk via nanoparticles

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2019
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of storage time and temperature on physicochemical and sensory properties and to measure the spoilage of pasteurized fluid milk stored at different temperatures via nanoparticles on pasteurized ...

Plant and Animal Protein Intakes Largely Explain the Nutritional Quality and Health Value of Diets Higher in Plants: A Path Analysis in French Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
Diets higher in plants are associated with lower risks of chronic diseases. However, animal foods, which are rich in protein, are also rich in some important minerals and vitamins.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Drivers of Consumer Liking for Beef, Pork, and Lamb: A Review

open access: yesFoods, 2020
Tenderness, juiciness, and flavor have been associated with consumer acceptance of beef, lamb, and pork. Drivers of consumer liking are interrelated across these species, but there are differences in consumer preferences.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

An Investigation of the Health Benefits of Honey as a Replacement For Sugar In the Diet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Sugar (primarily sucrose) has been a part of the daily diet for literally hundreds of years, but research is now suggesting that sugar intake can be detrimental to our health. In particular, excessive consumption of simple sugars with high glycemic index

In vivo porcine multi-omics integration identifies microbiome-driven histamine elevation and lasting gut perturbations following Ascaris suum infection and fenbendazole treatment

open access: yesVirulence
Ascaris roundworms impair human and swine health. While treatments using anthelmintic drugs are generally effective in eliminating worms, their effects on the gut microenvironment remain poorly understood.
