Study on the Implications of Asynchronous GMO Approvals for EU Imports of Animal Feed Products [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The aim of this study is to understand the implications of asynchronous approvals for genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that are imported to the European Union for use within animal feed products, specifically with regard to the EU livestock sector ...

Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement in Animals [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2004
In 2000, we percutaneously implanted a biological valve in the pulmonary artery of animals. A year later, we repeated the procedure in humans. Harvested from the bovine jugular vein, this valve was tested in vitro to assess its function when submitted to a diastolic pressure of 100 mm Hg, as well as its durability.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Transparency and Public Involvement in Animal Research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To be legitimate, research needs to be ethical, methodologically sound, of sufficient value to justify public expenditure and be transparent. Animal research has always been contested on ethical grounds, but there is now mounting evidence of poor ...

Impact of bioactive substances on the gastrointestinal tract and performance of weaned piglets: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The EU ban on in-feed antibiotics has stimulated research on weaning diets as a way of reducing post-weaning gut disorders and growth check in pigs. Many bioactive components have been investigated but only few have shown to be effective.

Effects of Age of Pups and Removal of Existing Litter on Pup Survival during Cross-Fostering between Multiparous Outbred Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Periparturient manipulation of mice is a valuable tool for modern research facilities. Although fostering and Caesarian section frequently are used to eradicate pathogens, an often overlooked use is to rescue poorly breeding strains of mice.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Open Cow Replacement Decisions: an Application of Asset Replacement Theory [PDF]

open access: yes
