Antibiotics and Antibiotic Resistance

open access: yesBiomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research, 2017
According to the World Health Organization (WHO)’s "First Global Report on Antibiotic Resistance“, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC&P), the spread of "superbugs“ - bacteria that have changed in ways that render antibiotics ineffective against them - is a serious and growing threat around the world...

Raphin‐1 mediates the survival and sensitivity to radiation of pediatric‐type diffuse high‐grade glioma via phosphorylated eukaryotic initiation factor 2α‐dependent and ‐independent processes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Raphin‐1 reduces the survival of PED‐DHGG cells and enhances their radiation sensitivity through both PeIF2α‐dependent and PeIF2α‐independent mechanisms. Raphin‐1 sustains elevated levels of PeIF2α, contributing to its PeIF2α‐dependent effects. Additionally, raphin‐1 interacts with CReP to mediate a separate radiosensitizing pathway that operates ...

Antimicrobial Activity of Microorganisms Isolated from the Soil of the Tropical Desert of the Sinai Peninsula

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия
Background. The spread of pathogenic antibiotic-resistant microorganisms often leads to the inefficiency of antimicrobial therapy. One of the solutions to this problem is the search for new active natural antibiotics. The aim of the study.

Neurotoxic amyloid β‐peptide and tau produce cytokine‐like effects on PMCA in glioblastoma cell lines, enhancing its activity and isoforms expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Two biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease, amyloid β‐peptide (Aβ) and tau, induce the transformation of U‐251 and other glioblastoma cell lines into neurotoxic A1‐like reactive astrocytes. This transformation is produced by cytokines and is followed by upregulation of PMCA activity and isoform expression, and is closely associated with inflammation, as ...

Pharmacokinetics of Olivamide after Bolus Administration in Rats and Rabbits (a Pilot Study)

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2020
The pharmacokinetics of olivamide, a semisynthetic antitumor derivate of olivomycin A, were studied in rats and rabbits after bolus administration. Plasma concentrations of olivamide were determined by an HPLC assay.

Tolerance and Resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilms to Antimicrobial Agents—How P. aeruginosa Can Escape Antibiotics

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the six bacterial pathogens, Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter spp., which are commonly associated with antimicrobial ...

Knockout of the mitoribosome rescue factors Ict1 or Mtrfr is viable in zebrafish but not mice: compensatory mechanisms underlying each factor's loss

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mitochondria contain two mitoribosome rescue factors, ICT1 and MTRFR (C12orf65). ICT1 also functions as a mitoribosomal protein in mice and humans, and its loss is lethal. Although Mtrfr knockout mice could not be generated, knockout zebrafish lines for ict1 and mtrfr were established.

Study of Antibacterial Activity and Energy of Formation of Peptide Ligand Complexes With Hybrid Antibiotics Vancomycin-Azithromycin and Eremomycin-Azithromycin

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2020
Antibacterial activity of hybrid antibiotics vancomycin-azithromycin (C11, C12-carbonate) and eremomycin-azitromycin (C11, C12-carbonate) was evaluated. Quantum chemical calculations of complexes of hybrid antibiotics with a model tripeptide ligand a, ε ...

Antibiotics, gut microbiota, and Alzheimer’s disease

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2019
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease whose various pathophysiological aspects are still being investigated. Recently, it has been hypothesized that AD may be associated with a dysbiosis of microbes in the intestine.
