Prognostic Value of Psoas Major Muscle Volume in Assessing Sarcopenia in Elderly Patients With Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study investigates the prognostic utility of a novel volumetric indicator—psoas volume index (PVI)—for assessing sarcopenia in elderly rectal cancer patients. Sarcopenia classified by our proposed PVI cut‐off values was associated with poor nutritional and inflammatory status, and patients with low PVI showed significantly worse long‐term outcomes.

Anomerization of N-Acetylglucosamine Glycosides Promoted by Dibromomethane and Dimethylformamide

open access: yesMolecules
In previous quests to synthesize fragments of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens (TACAs), we determined that bromoalkyl β glycosides of N-acetylglucosamine were labile and incompatible with some of the synthetic conditions required for the ...

Prognostic Significance of Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Treated With Chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To examine the significance of portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) as a prognostic factor for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) treated with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery. Methods The study retrospectively examined 313 patients with borderline resectable (BR) or locally advanced (LA) PDAC who underwent CRT ...

The Glycopeptide PV-PS A1 Immunogen Elicits Both CD4+ and CD8+ Responses

open access: yesVaccines
Background/Objectives: The MHCII-dependent, CD4+ T-cell zwitterionic polysaccharide PS A1 has been investigated as a promising carrier for vaccine development because it can induce an MHCII-dependent CD4+ response towards a variety of tumor-associated ...

The Bw4 public epitope of HLA-B molecules confers reactivity with natural killer cell clones that express NKB1, a putative HLA receptor. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Although inhibition of natural killer (NK) cell-mediated lysis by the class I HLA molecules of target cells is an established phenomenon, knowledge of the features of class I molecules which induce this effect remains rudimentary.

Survival Outcomes of Gemcitabine–Cisplatin–S‐1 Versus Gemcitabine–Cisplatin in Unresectable Biliary Tract Cancer: A Multicenter Retrospective Study With a Focus on Conversion Surgery

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
In this multicenter retrospective study conducted by the Biliary Tract Club, we compared survival outcomes between gemcitabine–cisplatin–S‐1 (GCS) and gemcitabine–cisplatin (GC) in patients with unresectable biliary tract cancer, with a particular focus on conversion surgery. GCS was associated with longer overall and progression‐free survival compared

Pancreatic Atrophy: A Narrative Review and Surgical Interpretation

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Pancreatic parenchymal atrophy pattern and intraoperative margin assessment guide surgical strategy. ABSTRACT Despite recent advances in multimodal management, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains a fatal malignancy. Early detection of indirect findings of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is essential to improve treatment outcomes, drawing ...

Differential expression of CD175 and CA19-9 in pancreatic adenocarcinoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
Alterations in protein glycosylation are observed in many solid tumor types leading to formation of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens (TACAs). The most common TACA is the Tn antigen (CD175), which is a mucin-type O-GalNAc-Ser/Thr/Tyr glycan in ...

Molecular mechanism of ischemic postconditioning in promoting diabetic ischemic brain injury repair via the microRNA‐34a–BDNF–SIX3 signaling axis

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Diabetes combined with ischemic stroke (DMIS) exacerbates brain infarct size and neuronal damage compared to nondiabetic ischemic stroke (IS). This study reveals that microRNA‐34a (miR‐34a) plays a key role in DMIS pathogenesis: miR‐34a directly targets and suppresses brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and Sine oculis homeobox 3 (SIX3), promoting

Preclinical evaluation of glycan-targeting monoclonal antibodies for bimodal near-infrared fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging of gastrointestinal cancers

open access: yesEJNMMI Research
Background Near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging assists surgeons intraoperatively to achieve radical resection of malignant tissue with one centimeter depth and can be supplemented with photoacoustic imaging to increase depth-of-view.
