[Tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens related to blood group carbohydrates].

Gan to kagaku ryoho. Cancer & chemotherapy, 1986
Biochemical studies have revealed the alteration of carbohydrate structures of cell membrane glycolipids, glycoproteins and cell secretory products associated with neoplastic transformation. Immunohistochemical examination of the blood group carbohydrate antigens in various cancer tissues have revealed the following results.

Possible roles of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens.

Cancer research, 1996
Recent progress in the studies on the roles of carbohydrates has brought about critical discoveries, which allow us to have working hypotheses for understanding the roles of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens. In this report, I focus my description on three different aspects of this progress.

Chapter 4 Tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens and modified blood group antigens

1996
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the present knowledge of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens (TACA's). It also discusses the pathobiological and functional significance of TACA's. A large number of monoclonal antibody (mAbs) showed distinctive reactivity with tumor cells but not with normal cells were found to be directed to carbohydrate ...

[Immunotherapy Targeting Tumor-Associated Carbohydrate Antigens in Deficient Mismatch Repair Colorectal Cancer].

Gan to kagaku ryoho. Cancer & chemotherapy, 2021
The Tn antigen is the most prevalent tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen. It interacts with macrophage galactose-specific lectin(MGL)on dendric cells and macrophages, driving immune inhibitory signals. Colorectal cancer(CRC)exhibiting deficient mismatch repair(dMMR)is characterized by tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes(TILs), the expression of immune ...

Humoral immune responses to tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens.

Seminars in cancer biology, 1992
Antibodies to carbohydrate structures are quite commonly found in human sera. Normal individuals, as well as individuals with autoimmune diseases and cancer, produce antibodies reacting with a variety of carbohydrate determinants. These determinants can be expressed on glycoproteins, mucins or glycosphingolipids.

Histo-Blood Group Antigens as Tumor-Associated Carbohydrate Antigens and Ligands for Cell Adhesion

1995
Since the blood group ABH antigen system was discovered by Landsteiner (1900, 1901), many scientists have worked on chemical characterization of these antigens. Early attempts to isolate the antigens from red blood cells (RBCs) were difficult because the antigens in the RBC membrane are insoluble in water and present in extremely small quantity as ...

Aberrant expression of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen Globo H in thyroid carcinoma.

Journal of surgical oncology, 2017
The induction of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen results from altered glycosylation in transformed cells. Globo H is a hexasaccharide glycosphingolipid overexpressed on malignancies of epithelial origin and has become an attractive vaccine target. We aimed to investigate the expression patterns and prognostic value of Globo H in thyroid neoplasms.
