MXene Wrapped Magnetic Mesocrystals for Durable Redox Catalytic Cancer Therapy and Responsive MRI

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Conformal wrapping of ultrathin Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets on Fe3O4 mesocrystals creates topology‐stabilized Schottky junctions that direct photoinduced electron transfer under NIR irradiation. The unique architecture sustains Fenton catalysis, promotes continuous hydroxyl radical production, and provides photo‐responsive MRI contrast.

Existing antioxidant levels are more important in acclimation to supplemental UV-B irradiation than inducible ones: Studies with high light pretreated tobacco leaves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Greenhouse grown tobacco plants were exposed to supplemental ultraviolet irradiation (280-400 nm, UV-B centered) for 6 days and changes in their photosynthesis (gas exchange and electron transport) and general and specific antioxidant activities were ...

The nutraceutical potential of natural antioxidant peptides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Several recent works have described bioactive peptides produced from food sources, some of which have proven antioxidant effects. Dietary intake of antioxidants peptides could decrease the risk of oxidative stress diseases (e.g., cancer, diabetes ...

Multifunctional Gold Nanocluster‐Based PROTAC System for Targeted Degradation of Phosphorylated Tau and Modulation of Neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a novel proteolysis‐targeting chimera (PROTAC) system conjugated to lipoic acid gold nanoclusters (PLANC), designed to degrade pTau, regulate inflammatory signaling, and effectively traverse the blood‐brain barrier (BBB). PLANC degraded pTau at various phosphorylation sites, with mechanistic studies confirming proteasome‐mediated degradation

Antioxidants and diabetes

open access: yesIndian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2012
Hyperglycemia promotes auto-oxidation of glucose to form free radicals. The generation of free radicals beyond the scavenging abilities of endogenous antioxidant defenses results in macro- and microvascular dysfunction. Antioxidants such as N-acetylcysteine, vitamin C and α-lipoic acid are effective in reducing diabetic complications, indicating that ...

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...
