Mucolytics and antioxidant activity

Life Sciences, 1999
We investigated effects of the mucolytics ambroxol and N-acetylcysteine on airways reactivity evoked by histamine in guinea pigs exposed to toluene vapors. We did not find significant changes in reactivity of tracheal smooth muscle from animals treated with mucolytics compared to the control group.

Antioxidant activity of curcuminoids

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2019
The antioxidant activity of the keto and enol forms of curcuminoids isolated from the roots of Curcuma longa is directly related to CH3O⋯H–O and NOT to CO⋯H–O hydrogen bonds.

On the antioxidant activity of melatonin

Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1999
Melatonin has been widely reported to be an effective antioxidant. Studies of its ability to inhibit the autoxidation of lipids in homogeneous solution and in model heterogeneous systems show that melatonin is not a peroxyl radical trapping antioxidant. In contrast, melatonin can inhibit metal ion-catalyzed oxidation processes.

Antioxidant Compounds and Antioxidant Activity in “Early Potatoes”

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2008
The antioxidant content and the antioxidant capacity of both hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidant extracts from four "early potato" cultivars, grown in two different locations (Racale and Monteroni), were examined. There was a considerable variation in carotenoid content and weak differences in the ascorbic acid concentration of the examined ...

Antioxidant activity of retinoids

1990
Publisher Summary Although the effects of retinoids are numerous in biological systems, among them are indications that retinoids may exert some of their actions by virtue of their acting as lipid-soluble antioxidants. In evaluating a substance as an antioxidant, it is important to use more than one assay, because an antioxidant may be very sensitive

Antiradical and antioxidant activities of new bio-antioxidants

Biochimie, 2012
Antioxidants could be promising agents for management of oxidative stress-related diseases. New biologically active compounds, belonging to a rare class of natural lignans with antiangiogenic, antitumoral and DNA intercalating properties, have been recently synthesized.

Antioxidant Activity of Essential Oils

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2013
Essential oils (EOs) are liquid mixtures of volatile compounds obtained from aromatic plants. Many EOs have antioxidant properties, and the use of EOs as natural antioxidants is a field of growing interest because some synthetic antioxidants such as BHA and BHT are now suspected to be potentially harmful to human health.

Antioxidant activity of Erica arborea

Fitoterapia, 2007
The antioxidant properties of the methanol extract of leaves and flowers of Erica arborea and the ethyl acetate, butanol and water soluble fractions were investigated. The ethyl acetate extract was found to be the richest for phenolic and flavonoid content which showed the highest antioxidant activity.

Antioxidant activity of Catalpa bignonioides

Fitoterapia, 2007
Antioxidant activity of methanolic extracts from inflorescence rachises, corollas, calyxes, leaves, valves of capsules and hypertrophied placenta of Catalpa bignonioides by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl reduction (DPPH) and tyrosine nitration inhibition induced by peroxynitrite was tested.
